How to Love Who You Are

Loving yourself is one of the most difficult things to do. Many of us tend to struggle with this. It is easy to love others but while doing that we completely forget to love ourselves. Robert Morley once rightly said- to fall in love with yourself is the first secret to happiness. Thankfully, it’s never too late to start loving yourself. Once you achieve this, it would be the start of your journey towards happiness and contentment. 

Know Who You Are 

One of the biggest reasons why people don’t love who they are is because they don’t know who they are. Knowing yourself is a journey, you discover new things about yourself as you go along. Therefore, don’t expect things overnight. You have to put yourself out there to gauge how you think, emote, and react. You should also analyse your empathy and sympathy skills as they are a great way to know your emotional range. There are many ways through which you will get to know who you really are. 

Accept Who You Are

Many people never come to terms with who they are and how to accept who they are. You have to know the fact that despite there being billions of people on the planet, you are one of a kind and you have to accept who you are, flaws and all. One of the biggest reasons why people’s mental health suffers is because they can’t accept who they are and are constantly trying to change their natural personality. Celebrate Your Accomplishments 

No matter how big or small, all your accomplishments need to be celebrated. If you have done something good and noteworthy, you need a pat on your back. This can be a great confidence booster and help you love yourself. 

Forget the Negativity 

One of the biggest factors that stop people from loving themselves is negative criticism. Many people tend to dwell on the bad stuff said to them and this stops them from growing or ever feeling good about themselves. You have to learn to let go of all the negative stuff. This stuff will only hold you back. It’s not easy to turn off negativity. It is also a procedure in which you have to invest yourself, and slowly, you’ll be able to take negative people and feedback out of your life. 

Take Help 

Along with figuring it out yourself, you can also take help in learning to love who you are. Your friends and family, who already love you, can help you with this. You can also take the help from a mental health professional who can be even more effective in helping you love who you are.
