Can I get PR in Canada through Express Entry?

Posted by Nationwide Immigration Services on June 27th, 2022

The primary method by which the Canadian government grants skilled workers permanent residence is through Express Entry. Candidates who meet the requirements post their profiles on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada's website (IRCC). A Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score is assigned to them. The IRCC sends invitations to apply for permanent residency to immigration candidates with the highest CRS scores every two weeks or so.

Express Entry candidates can anticipate the Canadian government to process their applications for permanent residency within six months of receiving an ITA. When a complete application for permanent residency is received, the government starts tracking the processing time. When a decision is made about the approval of an application, the processing period is complete. A candidate may easily resubmit their Express Entry profile if they are still qualified if they do not receive an ITA within a year of generating their profile.

Express Entry program eligibility

Candidates must fulfil the requirements of at least one of the following federal economic immigration programmes in order to be eligible for Express Entry:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program: This is the main route for economic immigration to Canada. For candidates educated outside of Canada, an educational credential (certificate, diploma, or degree) and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report are required in addition to at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in a skilled occupation under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level 0, A, or B in the previous ten years. Candidates must additionally achieve at least 67 points on the FSWP's points grid in addition to completing the minimum job, language, and educational requirements.
  • Canadian Experience Class: The CEC gives foreign workers and students who have studied or worked in Canada the chance to become permanent residents. Candidates must also meet the requirements for language competence and have at least one year of skilled, professional, or technical job experience gained in Canada within three years of the application date.
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program: The FSTP is open to applicants who want to immigrate to the United States permanently and who meet the requirements for a skilled trade. The requirements for eligibility include meeting the job requirements for the skilled trade, having a full-time job offer in Canada for at least a year, or having a certificate of qualification in the skilled trade that has been issued by an official Canadian authority. You must also meet language proficiency requirements and have a minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the 5-year period prior to submitting an application.

Steps to apply for Express Entry

A step-by-step guide on how to submit your Express Entry profile and apply for a permanent residence visa to immigrate to Canada is provided below:

Step 1: Determine your Express Entry eligibility as per your choice of immigration pathway.

Step 2: Take your language exam and get an evaluation of your educational credentials (ECA).

Step 3: Upload your profile to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada's website (IRCC).

Step 4: Hold off on applying for permanent residence until you hear from IRCC with an invitation to apply (ITA).

Step 5: Complete your Application for Permanent Residence (APR) and submit it to IRCC together with your fee payment by the due date. This stage requires you to attach copies of your police clearance and medical examination. After that, IRCC will give you an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR).

Step 6: When IRCC requests it, submit your biometrics.

Step 7: Watch for the IRCC to decide definitively on your APR. In six months or less, the IRCC hopes to have applications approved. If you are from a nation that needs a visa, you will also obtain a permanent residence visa once your application is accepted, allowing you to travel to Canada to finish your landing.

Family immigration through Express Entry

You may apply for Express Entry with your spouse, common-law partner, or both. You may also include your own dependent children, the dependent children of your spouse or common-law partner, and their dependent children. Your accompanying family members will also be granted permanent residence if you are chosen through Express Entry. Dependent children are those who:

  • being under 22 years old and not being married or in a common-law relationship, or
  • being at least 22 years old, depending on their parents' financial support before turning 22, and being unable to maintain themselves financially due to a medical or mental health condition

Getting a PR through the Express Entry if the easiest and fastest way. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Canada had frequent Express Entry draws. Over 430,000 additional immigrants are expected to enter Canada each year over the next three years, according to the Immigration Levels Plan. Express Entry will be the primary method used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to administer these immigrants' applications because the majority of them will be skilled workers. Over 110,000 Express Entry immigrants are expected to be accepted annually by 2024, according to IRCC.
