Raw Materials required for the Production of White Cement

Posted by Pooja Gupta on July 5th, 2022

White cement, alternatively also known as white ordinary Portland cement, is a type of hydraulic cementing material. It is commonly used for decorations. It is made of clinker of white cement that contains low iron oxide as well as gypsum. However, its whiteness must be of superior quality. Hence, the raw material used in the production of white cement, as well as the cement plant obtained from Cement plant equipment suppliers, must be of top-notch quality.

Raw materials for white cement production

When it comes to the mineral com[osition of the white cement clinker, it is essentially the same as that of the ordinary portland cement clinker. The only difference is that the white clinker consists of some amount of iron phase mineral. This is because the Fe2O3 present in the cement clinker can greatly impact the quality of the whiteness. Only when the content of Fe2O3 is limited can the requirements of producing white cement be met.

Mineralizer

The calcination temperature of white cement clinker is much higher than ordinary portland cement. In order to reduce the temperature of calcination, operators of white cement plants procured fromCement plant machinery manufacturersadd a mineralizer such as the CaF2   to the raw materials. Industrial waste such as fluorine and sulfur are also used at times as mineralizers. Mineralizers are capable of reducing the temperature of calcination since they result in the reduction of the temperature at which carbonate decomposes, accelerates the solid-phase reaction, and reduce the viscosity as well as the temperature at which the liquid phase is formed.

Alkali

When raw material for producing ordinary portland cement contains alkali it is essentially a harmful volatile substance. However, during the production of white cement, some amount of alkali content is required to improve the overall quality.

Process of White Cement Production

The process of producing white cement is quite different from OPC and it includes six different steps. They are as follows:

1.     Crushing

In order to ensure the removal of impurities from raw materials to maintain the quality of the cement, the crushing of the raw material undergoes multiple screenings as well as washing processes.

2.     Grinding the Raw Material

Wet grinding equipment is used to grind the silica materials whereas a cement vertical mill is used for grinding limestone. A ceramic or rubber liner is usually present in the wet grinding equipment.

3.     Calcination

Once the material has been ground and as well homogenized, it is pre-decomposed using a cyclone preheater and calciner. It is then calcined at a very high temperature using the cement rotary kiln which results in the formation of cement clinker.

4.     Cooling the Clinker

Since the temperature of the calcined clinker is quite high, cooling it effectively is important. Clinker bleaching also takes place during this step.

5.     Grinding Cement

The cement ball mill is one of the most used cement mills for grinding clinkers. During this process, gypsum is usually added to the white cement. Just like fluxed wires fromFlux Cored Wire Suppliers in Indiaare preferred, a cement ball mill is preferred for this stage.

6.     Packing

This is the last stage of white cement manufacturing. Essentially they are packed in bags and then stored in warehouses for shipping.

Conclusion

This is everything you need to know about the production of white cement. Needless to say, once you’ve procured the equipment you must also partner withThermal spray powder suppliers so that you can protect your machinery from excessive wear and tear.
