Gangubai Kathiawadi Full Movie: A movie that broke all the records!!

No matter whether you are a movie lover or not. But, Gangubai Kathiawadi full movie will leave you in surprise. Alia Bhatt’s commendable performance made the viewers relive the biography. She turns out to be the skillful performer as well as the main character of the film. If we talk about the initial scenes of the movie, Ganga( Alia Bhatt) seems to be the most lively person who wants to become an actress. However, later on, the Gangubai seems to be the perfect combination of savageness and grit with a gold heart. Alia Bhatt nailed every part of the film that stamped the mark on people’s hearts and minds. In Bollywood, it is one of the most loved performances of Alia Bhatt. 
Bhansali added depth like an ocean to the film when he added the character of Raziabai, a trans woman played by Vijay Raaz, and Seemabai ( played by Seema Pahwa), a brothel madam. Moreover, Shantanu Maheshwari shares affable chemistry with the main character. And the presence of Ajay Devgn’s guest appearance gets to mouth some mass dialogues.

Who is the real Gangubai Kathiawadi?

To begin with, Gangubai Harjeevandas was popularly known as Gangubai Kathiawadi or Gangubai Kothewali. She was the social activist, madam, and prostitute, a brother of Kamathipura. The Kamathipura area of Mumbai was famous for brothels and sex workers. It was the time of the 1960s when she was sold to a brother for 1000 rupees only. At the age of 16 only, she pushed to become a sex worker. This is because she ran away from her home with Ramnik Lal to become an actress. Gangubai eventually became known as the “Madam” of Kamathipura for being a powerful brothel-keeper who has connections with the underworld. She owned her brothel and fought for the rights of the children born in those brothels. 
During the period 1947 to 1964, Gangubai Kathiawadi met Jawaharlal Nehru to discuss the situation of sex workers and their living conditions. Her initiative to improve the life of brothel workers made her an important person in Kamathipura. Moreover, she also took steps for the admission of the children to her nearby school. But, because of their mother’s profession as a sex worker, the principal refused to do so.

Who was Hussain Zaidi, and what did he write in his book?

Hussain Zaidi, the writer of Mafia Queens of Mumbai, wrote about the lives of thirteen women who impacted the city for a greater cause. Additionally, Gangubai’s life story was one of them. According to Zaidi’s information, She belonged to a well-educated family and was a fan of Dev Anand Sahib. Her obsession with becoming an actress pushed her to a life she never expected. Moreover, she didn’t expect her suitor to sell her for some money. Ganga, at 16, fled to Mumbai with 28 years old Ramnik Lal and married. After the infrequent daytimes of their wedding, her spouse Ramnik Lal sold her in a brothel or “Kuntankhana” for 1000 rupees. Reluctantly, she started working as a sex-workers, in a short span. She became the owner of some brothels. But Shaukat Khan, a goon, started exploiting her physically and financially. In order to get rid of him, Gangubai complained to Karim Lala, an underworld don who later shared the brother-sister relationship with Gangubai. Lala helped Gangubai at every stage of her life. Even Gangubai sent several young women back to their homes who were accidentally struck as a sex-worker. This is the reason she was called Gangubai Gaa Maa. 
Additionally, after her death, her posters were pitched in the brothels of Kamathipura.

The whole life of Gangubai Kathiawadi was a struggling one. In her teenage years sold in a brothel, where she lived a miserable life. But, she never lost the fight for their rights and lives. No doubt Sanjay Leela Bhansali did a commendable job when he brought Gangubai Kathiawadi’s biography in front of millions of people. He indeed did justice with the character of Gangubai. One must watch the movie to feel the life of real Gangubai.
