Tips On Choosing The Right Blind For Different Window TypesPosted by Jason Norman on July 22nd, 2022 There are a lot of blind types and design nowadays to suit all kinds of windows and doors and to help with darkening, insulation with thermal blinds, letting more light in, or whatever it is you want to achieve. Here is a look at just some of those window types and what to consider. French doors and windows French doors are a little more complicated than standard-sized windows as there is the issue of the door needing to open without the blind or its controls getting in the way. Also when the door is open you do not want to listen to the controls bumping around in the breeze. Try to keep it consistent with the window in the room and consider something like roller blinds or wood Venetian blinds because the former has a friction lock mechanism and the latter has more weight so less banging. Over large windows When you have larger than usual windows the weight of blinds over them makes it harder to raise them, and when strings are involved it can often lead to those strings breaking. You might look into thermacell blinds with a special control choice or divide up the large window as if it were multiple smaller windows and use several blinds. Windows with arches Arches make it tough to hang blinds as people sometimes treat them as if they are rectangular but that loses their impact. To keep that arch effect consider honeycomb blinds or pleated blinds that fan. Sliding doors When you have sliding doors a popular choice is vertical blinds as they can be installed over the glass or within the frame. However, if other windows do not use vertical then you should opt for consistency instead. Bay windows Most blinds including thermal blinds can work on bay windows but it is very important to consider their design and measure with care. You will need to use 3 to 5 blinds in order to cover it. If you do opt for Roman blinds then make sure there is some room between them, if they are too close together they will get caught up with each other and stop them from moving up and down properly. Humid windows Any blinds of good quality should be water resistant but some windows have a lot of hunditiy issues and certain blinds do not do well including laminate fabric roller, wooden Venetian and fabric Roman. Windows that get a lot of strong sunlight If you have a window or two that catches very strong sunlight you will want blinds that prevent the glare and offer some insulation from that hot sun. Thermacell blinds will work nicely or you might consider blockout blinds. Windows in rooms with children If you have smaller kids in the house you should make sure you get blinds that are good quality and safe. Do not have blinds over a crib that has string or chain hanging down or where they can reach as they start pulling things and getting into them. Like it? Share it!More by this author |
