2019 Fantasy Football Busts Do Not Draft list of top overrat

Posted by seestyle on July 25th, 2022

There are many ways to define a fantasy football "bust". Quite simply, a player can qualify for that label if he doesn'tmeet the expectations of where he is in the rankings or where you draft them. While it's silly to say any somewhat viable producer at quarterback, running back, wide receiver or tight end is "undraftable", there are some you shouldn't draft if the pick istoo high because you won't get the desired return on investment vs. other better values at their position, either at that pick or later. So, this "Do Not Draft" list doesn't mean you avoid these players at all costs; rather, you should be mindful about where you're selecting them.

With that in mind, here's Sporting News' annual couched version of the "Do Not Draft" list. We still like a lot of these guys but think they Khalid Kareem Jerseys all are being taken too high based on current average draft position (ADP).

DOMINATE YOUR DRAFT:

Here are some overrated players to highlight on your cheat sheet, taking into consideration half-point PPR scoring:

2019 STANDARD RANKINGS: | | | | | |

2019Overrated Fantasy Wyatt Ray Jerseys QBs

Baker Mayfield, Browns (ADP: 62)

Mayfield is ranked as the No. 5 quarterback in most places. You can understand the hype after his terrific rookie season with Odell Beckham Jr. as his new go-to guy. But this draft position is calling for a significant spike in his scoring. Keep in mind the Browns can also run the ball well with Nick Chubb, should be playing with the lead more often this season, and have an improved defense to keep Mayfield from being boosted too much by garbage numbers. He was still 20th among QBs in terms of fantasy points per game (FPPG) last season, so this is calling for a likely unreasonable spike in production.

Carson Wentz, Eagles (ADP: 88)

Sure, there's potential that Wentz, fully healthy, can round back into the near-MVP form he enjoyed for most of his 2017 season, but it's fair to be concerned about his durability, as he's now coming off a season shortened by a back injury. Around the same range, super durable Ru sell Wilson is a safer pick.

Cam Newton, Panthers (ADP: 90)

There's a lot of excitement about what Newton can do in the second year of Norv Turner's offense should his right shoulder hold up because of Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel, the tight ends, and several other serviceable wideouts. But beyond the health-based trepidation, there's a sense his running will remain diminished and his pa sing will be more calculated on a team built to win more because of the traditional running game and defense.

Tom Brady, Patriots (ADP: 124)

Brady finished as QB17 in terms of FPPG last season, taking him well out of QB1 range. Now he's going into a season without Rob Gronkowski and with alot of questions beyond Julian Edelman at wide receiver for a team that further bolstered its running game and Chris Evans Jerseys won anotherSuper Bowl because of defense. He's been adjusted to rank in the early 20s at the position, but that might be too high in relation to higher-upside QB2 picks.

Mitchell Trubisky, Bears (ADP: 149)

Trubisky finished 11th in FPPG last year thanks to a few monster games and his rushing production, but few feel he can duplicate that because we expected more of him in Year 2 given the dynamic upgrades of the Bears' offense. Chicago now is set up to throw le s anddeliver better complementary power running for its defense with rookie David Montgomery. There are a lot more higher-upside QB2s around this ADP, including Jimmy Garoppolo and Josh Allen.

2019 Overrated Fantasy RBs

James Conner, Steelers (ADP: 10)

Conner absolutely did not stop producinguntil all talk of Pittsburgh mi sing Le'Veon Bell was dead. He proved he was a versatile workhorse in his own right, and he's earned the right be ranked ahead of Bell in most places for 2019. But there are legitimaterumblings that Jaylen Samuels could see more touches in conjunction with Conner to keep from overworking him. That's enough to maybe pivot to an elite WR1 instead early and be fine with Joe Mixon, Dalvin Cook, Nick Chubb or Todd Gurley on the way back in Round 2.

Melvin Gordon, Chargers (ADP: 21)

Gordon is somehow going five spots ahead of his current average Jessie Bates III Jerseys rankingdespite the fact his holdout doesn't seem to have a short-term end in sight. Also, you can bet the Chargers sent a me sage to him by using Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson prominently and effectively in the preseason opener. The team was fine with Ekeler and Jackosn splitting work with Gordon out last season, and it's likely Joe Burrow Jerseys Ekeler and Jackson will play more should Gordon return to the mix, anyway. Stay away from a highly TD-dependent back.

Damien Williams, Chiefs (ADP: 27)

Williams came through for savvy Kareem Hunt handcuffers down the stretch last season, but there's a reason he's been limited to a swing backup role for most of his career. There are questions about whether he can hold up for 20-25 touches consistently, and his preseason hamstring injury has raised that i sue. Plus, Carlos Hyde and rookie Darwin Thompson have looked good to the point Andy Reid might mull more of a committee approach, a la the Spencer Ware-Charcandrick West days.

Phillip Lindsay, Broncos (ADP: 45)

If you haven't paid attention to the new offense in Denver, it's clear that despite Lindsay's run to the Pro Bowl as an undrafted free agent feature back last season, the team wants bigger Royce Freeman involved in a lot more power running behind an improved offensive line. Lindsay is still going 15 spots ahead of his ranking, and that's a mistake in what will be more of a straight split situation.

Sony Michel, Patriots (ADP: 46)

Michel may have buried his lingering knee injury i sues for now and is making an effort to be more viable in the pa sing game to stay on the field in some of those situations over James White. The problem Cincinnati Bengals Hats is, last year's first-rounder has a real threat for touches from this year's third-rounder, Damien Harris, who is naturally more durable and more versatile. This is the Patriots' backfield, so it's bound work out the opposite of howyou think it should.

Kenyan Drake, Dolphins (ADP: 66)

We wanted to keep loving the Drakebecause we thought Chad O'Shea and the newoffensive coaching staff would like his James White-like qualities. But we also know White is a situational timeshare back and O'Shea comes from the Patriots. The threat of Kalen Ballage to make this an even workload split is real.
