The social media site OnlyFans, which allows users to sell subscription access to content, announced on Thursday that it would start onlyfans leak banning sexually explicit images in October.

In response to requests from its "banking partners and payout providers," the company said in a statement that it would prevent users from posting pornographic images and videos. According to OnlyFans, users can still post nudity-containing images as long as they adhere to its rules. The platform must evolve our content guidelines, the company claimed, "to ensure the platform's long-term sustainability." Questions about who made the request or what caused the shift were not answered by a company spokeswoman.

According to Axios, the change comes as OnlyFans has had difficulty raising money from investors who are wary of the company's sexually explicit content. Once the ban went into effect, it was unclear how OnlyFans, a British company, would decide which pictures and videos of nudity were sexually explicit. The business already prohibits minors from using the platform and blocks posts that contain sexual assault, violence, or bestiality.

During the pandemic, OnlyFans has grown to support two million creators, including sex workers. The business claimed that by letting creators effectively run their own businesses and own the content that they post on the site, it had contributed to the democratisation of sex work. Since OnlyFans launched almost five years ago, creators have made more than .5 billion overall, according to the company.

More than 130 million people use the platform, paying creators monthly fees to view feeds of frequently too pornographic for Instagram or TikTok imagery. With that access, subscribers can also contact creators directly and "tip" them for on-demand access to explicit images or videos.
