There's much to learn about guinea pigs, from their elaborate communication style to their continuously growing incisors. Here are a few fun facts about Guinea Pigs.

Guinea pigs are truly social creatures, so they enjoy being around other guinea pigs. They also have their own distinct vocalizations that they use to communicate with each other. And did you know that their incisors never stop growing? So if you have a guinea pig as a pet, be sure to give them plenty of chew toys to keep their teeth healthy!

Fun Facts about Guinea Pigs: They can be nasty

Guinea pigs are social creatures that need the company of others to be happy and healthy. They can become aggressive if they don't have enough space, so it's important to have at least three guinea pigs in a house. Guinea pigs are most active at night, and they will come out of their huts to socialize with their friends every time the lights are on.

They live short

The typical guinea pig lifespan is 4-6 years old, with females typically outliving males. One of the reasons for this difference is that females tend to take fewer risks than males, and thus expose themselves to fewer dangerous activities that could lead to infection or injury.

Guinea Pigs have 32 teeth!

When you see a guinea pig eating grass, it is not because it necessarily wants to eat greenery. In fact, the grass is full of toxins that can harm them if consumed in large quantities. Guinea pigs use their teeth to gently break down the grass before eating it in order to avoid consuming too many toxins.

Guinea pigs don’t have traditional teeth. In fact, they have a total of 32 cheek teeth. Some of their other skull bones were removed during evolution in order to make room for this number of teeth.

Guinea Pigs are Intelligent

Guinea pigs are smart creatures that can be taught tricks! They're also super cute and make great pets. If you're patient with your new pet's training (and offer food rewards), then you'll be amazed at what it can learn every day. I speak from experience because I own two guinea piglets myself.

Guinea Pigs make a lot of Noise

Guinea pigs are known for making a variety of noises, but the most well-known is their ‘wheek’. This sound only appears when they’re hungry and looking for food from their owners! If you have a guinea pig and you hear this noise, it means that your pet is ready for a meal!
