Animals in Ranthambore National Park

If you are a wildlife lover and on your trip to India then Ranthambore National Park is a great place to witness wildlife up close. Ranthambore National Park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan and is one of the major and most admired national parks of northern India.

Ranthambore National Park is an ideal destination for wildlife lovers. It is one of the best options for watching tigers and other wild animals in their natural wild habitat. Ranthambore National Park has a wonderful climate, flora and fauna which make this park more beautiful and dry deciduous.

Animals in Ranthambore National Park

More than 40 species of mammals are found in Ranthambore National Park. More than 35 species of reptiles are found in the forest of Ranthambore National Park. The forests of Ranthambore are dry deciduous, due to which there are not many species of amphibians in Ranthambore National Park.

Tiger is the main attraction among the wild animals of Ranthambore National Park. Apart from tiger, many other wild animal species including herbivores, omnivores, carnivores, scavengers are found in Ranthambore National Park.

Five types of cat family species are found in the forests of Ranthambore. These include tigers, leopards, caracals, feral cats and rusty spotted cats.

Apart from these, animals like Sambar, Spotted Deer (Chital), Sambar Deer Tiger, Blue Bull (Nilgai), Chinkara (Indian Chikara) and Wild Boar are found in Ranthambore. Other wild animal species can also be seen during jungle safari in Ranthambore National Park, including jackal, sloth bear, Indian palm civet, striped hyena, common mongoose, long eared hedgehog, ruddy weasel, five-striped palm squirrel, Indian Rabbit, Indian Porcupine, Lesser Bandicoot Rat or Indian Mole-rat, Honey Badger or Rattle, Indian Flying Fox, Greater False Vampire Bat, Indian Gerbil etc.

A large number of reptiles are also found in Ranthambore National Park which are often seen during safaris. These reptiles include snout marsh crocodile or crocodile, Bengal monitor or common Indian monitor lizard, Indian rock python, saw-scaled viper, Indian rat snake, Indian bullfrog, skittering frog, Asian common toad, tortoise, banded krait, cobra, Indian or common Krait, Indian Soft-shell Turtle, Indian Flap Shell Turtle and Russell's Viper, etc.
