How to Be More Confident

What happens when you do the things you're good at? Your confidence starts increasing. Your strength will be even stronger, which will help in increasing your confidence in yourself. This approach has another benefit: It can increase your satisfaction with your life.

For example, if you're good at a particular sport, make it a point to train or play at least once a week. If you are good at a specific task at work, try to do that task more often. By building your strength, you can also learn how to build your self confidence.

How to Improve Self-Esteem

Fortunately, you can take some steps to address issues with your self-perception and confidence in your abilities. How do you build self-esteem? Here are some steps you can take how to improve your self esteem:

  • Be more aware of negative thoughts. Learn to identify the distorted thoughts that are affecting your self-esteem.
  • Challenge negative thought patterns. If you find yourself engaging in negative thoughts, try to counteract those thoughts with more realistic and/or positive thoughts.
  • Use positive self-talk. Practice reciting positive affirmations to yourself.
  • Practice self-compassion.
  • Practice forgiving yourself on past mistakes and moving on, accepting all parts of yourself.

    Low self-esteem may contribute to or be a symptom of mental disorders, including anxiety and depression. Consider talking to a doctor or therapist about available treatment options, which may include psychotherapy (in person or online), medication, or a combination of both.
