Kitchen Chimney Cleaning Tips: The Ultimate Guide

Many people think that they have to hire a professional chimney cleaner when their chimney is clogged, but this isn’t necessarily the case. If you have the time and patience, you can clean your own kitchen exhaust system. You can avoid paying the high cost of a pro while still keeping your family safe by following these tips to clean your kitchen exhaust system. This is easy if you take it step-by-step with care and caution…it’s not as difficult as it looks!

1.The first thing that you should do to clear up your chimney is to run some water into it. You can either pour some water from a bucket or get a garden hose and fill it up as high as you can without flooding the room. It doesn’t even have to be a lot of water…no more than about two inches will do.

2. After you run the water into the chimney, simply close the damper on your stove with the knobs facing up so that there is no gap between the damper and stove top. If you do have a problem with water spilling over, in most cases I can just turn off my gas valve instead of unplugging my stove, but this is an option if needed.

3. Let the water stay in your chimney for about five to ten minutes. This is plenty of time for the water to soak into every inch of your chimney.

4. Once you have let the water soak into your kitchen exhaust system, you need to use a hairdryer to finish drying out the rest of your chimney. You might be surprised at how quickly this works! With heat and a constant, gentle stream of air from the hairdryer, you should be able to loosen up any residual matter and get it ready for removal by using the other methods mentioned in this article.
