Local Information for Northampton

Northampton is a market town and borough with a population of approximately 425,700 people. It began as an anglo-Saxon village called Hamm tun, which means the village by the well-watered meadow. Later North was added to its name possibly to distinguish it from Southampton. Not long after, it changes its name to Northampton.

 

It will interest you to knwo that the boundaries of this historic shire have remained virtually unchanged since the Domesday Book (1086). In some ways, the administrrative county of Northamptonshire epitomizes the revival or a forgoton rural England. At the sametime, it playes an important role in contemporary economy. A notable nyumber of reservours were constrocted on the Nene and its tributaries. 

Some of the must-sees in Northampton is and the Northampton Guildhall, a Grade II* building which was built in the 1860s.
