Things to Prepare for your First Open Mic Performance

Remember, anybody from your audience is going to be as nervous as you are when it is your first open mic performance. There are a few tricks though that you can try to make your first open mic more successful than you could ever anticipate. Let's discover a few body language tips and coping strategies that can make you a huge hit right from your very first gig.

1) Admit That It Is Your First Performance

The best way to break the ice is to tell them that it is your first open mic performance. The audience is highly likely to welcome with either applause or a whole-hearted "aww". They are going to be a lot more supportive, excited, and curious at the same time. Remember, almost everybody knows how it feels to be on stage for the first time and be nervous whether the people sitting in front of you are going to like you or not.

2) It Is Normal To Be Scared

Now, this is something you have to tell yourself. You feel that you're nervous and afraid but it is all right. As a stand-up comedian or somebody who aspires to be one, it is normal to be nervous. You just have to concentrate on your craft and you will be fine.

3) Finish Within Your Time Limit

A lot of comic performers fail to understand this little trick. This is why they end up elongating their jokes and ruining their crispiness. Avoid extending your performance beyond your time limit.
