AR 15 AMMUNITION

Using ammunition during war is necessary. Among the ones used in common practice is the AR 15. This is a military operated rifle, which comes in three variants, namely semi-automatic, fully automatic and the burst fire variants. This rifle is a lightweight, magazine-fed, air-cooled rifle, which fires an intermediate cartridge. This rifle is manufactured with aluminum alloys along with synthetic materials. It caters to the needs of all kinds of customers who are using war gear.

When we talk of the AR 15, we can easily say that it was built to cater to the needs of the United States Armed forces. A company called ArmaLite built this in 1959. However, ArmaLite experienced some financial problems and sold the design to another company called Colt. It was then modified to a certain extent and its modified version in the form of the M-16 rifle was adopted by the armed forces. The AR-15 rifle comes in many sizes and with many options, depending on the manufacturer. Later the semi-automatic version of the rifle designated as Colt SP1 was sold to civilians.

The term AR 15 or “AR-15” is a registered trademark of Colt Industries bought over from ArmaLite. The AR-15 is based on the 7.62mm AR-10 designed by professionals Eugene Stoner, Robert Fremont and L. James Sullivan working for the Fairchild ArmaLite Corporation. This rifle was developed as a lighter version of the 5.56mm AR-10. In all ArmaLite firearms, the AR-10 simply stands for ArmaLite Rifle. This rifle is commonly found on most of the company’s firearms, AR-5, apart from a 0.22 caliber rifle, along with the AR-7, another AR-17 shotgun rifle of the AR-10 variety. The AR-24 pistol accompanies this.

Some important features of the AR-15 include:

  • Aircraft grade, counterfeit 7075-T6 aluminum receiver lightweight, highly corrosion resistant and also machinable
  • Front side adjustable for elevation
  • Synthetic pistol grip and butt stock that is regulated
  • Ergonomic design that makes the handle easy to access
  • Rear sight that can be adjusted for most models
  • Various magazine capacities which range from 10–30 rounds
  • 4 MOA accuracy
  • Small calibre, accurate, lightweight, high-velocity round
  • Support for other rounds with easy conversions
  • AR 15 handguards

The US Patent describes the cycling mechanism used in AR-15 with the bolt carrier acting as the movable cylinder and the bolt itself acting as a stationary piston. Its mechanism is often called a “direct gas infringement” which in turn differs from a prior gas system.
