This God of eternity is known for his miraculous deeds and worldwide. Visiting of all Shiva temples is a hard task, but some of specific Shiva temples are must to visit in our lifetime.

Such one remarkable Shiva temple is Chidambaram Natarajar Temple. The Cosmic Dance, Natarajar graces here and shower his blessings to all the faithful devotees.

Chidambaram is offshore town on the east coast road south of Chennai and Pondicherry. Chidambaram is known for the popular Nataraja temple built in the 10th century. When the arean was under the rule of the Chola dynasty on the period from 9th to the 13th century BC, is considered the golden age in Tamil Nadu.

1.Chidambaram Nataraja Temple

This Nataraja Temple was built by the Chola emperors in the 10th century BC. Thillai Nataraja is another name of this temple. Earlierly chiedambaram town is called as Thillai, which means mangrove trees. Pichavaram is located in near chidamabaram, its has the largest mangrove forest in Tamil Nadu.

Here the Lord Shiva depicted in a dancing posture. One should not miss the colorful artworks on the temple walls depicting different legends. Until the 17th century the Vijayanagara rulers played a major part in protecting the temple after the Chola dynasty. This temple has stood the test of the time for over a millennium.

2.Vaitheeswaran Temple

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. And it’s located in 27 Km distance from Chidambaram. Vaitheeswaran means ‘Good of healing’ in Tamil. All the people are believed a holy dip in the temple tank to cure all diseases. This town is popular for Nadi astrology.

Nadi astrology works on the premise that the past, present and future lives of all humans were foreseen and written in leaves by Hindu sages. The Nadi leaves are cover the full life history of human from birth to death. The Vatteluttu is known as ancient Tamil script used to writte the Nadi text. A Tamil saga called Agathiyar is believed to have written these scripts.

3.Pichavaram Mangrove Forest

The Pichavaram means mangrove place is located outskirt of Chidambaram, it is the largest mangrove forest in Tamil Nadu. This is one of the most attractive locations in the whole of Tamil Nadu. It has short driving distance from Chidambaram. Here, the boat ride is a memorable experience.

This mangrove forests provide a delusion of being larger than what it is when viewed from inside. The boats floating through the narrow canals where trees from either side arch towards each other forming a green canopy.  Cut off from its surroundings it is a beautiful little world. Blue skies, pristine waters and mangrove forests are a treat for the eyes.

4.Gangaikonda Cholapuram

This city was founded by Raja Raja Chola to commemorate his conquest in North India by beating the Pala dynasty. Gangaikonda Cholapuram means ‘thetown of the Chola king who conquered the river Ganges’ in Tamil.

Over the years this city of Gangaikonda Cholapuram has been destroyed in multiple wars. The Lord Maha Shiva Temple is only reminder of its glorious past. The magnificence of the temple has to seen to be believed to build in the Dravidian style of architecture. This temple has a 9-storey, 55-meter tower. It has some same features to the Thanjavur Periya Koil, built by another Chola king.      

5.Poompuhar Beach

Poompuhar beach is one of the most antique beaches in Tamil Nadu. It is a natural beach that is 3 km long, at the southern end is mouth of the Kaveri river. One should visit the mouth of the Kaveri River where it joins the sea. The beach itself is rocky, but attracts to those who seek solitude as it is less commercialized.

Poompuhar Beach has attraction places are lighthouse and a memorial as a tall tower. The crowd is thin on most days, since it is an offbeat attraction. It is better to visit on a weekend or else the place will likely look deserted, devoid of any tourists.
