Do?s and Don?ts of Cleaning With Petrol Pressure Cleaner

A petrol pressure cleaner is a pressure washer that uses a high-pressure jet stream of water to clean walls, floors, vehicles and equipment, among others. A petrol pressure washer is handy for loosening the dirt and is ideal for places where cleaning of dust/grime build up has occurred. It uses a petrol powered engine to create the water pressure.

There are three types of petrol pressure washers according to pump strength and performance. They can also be categorised sometimes on the type cleaning they do. The unit that is used to measure the strength of the pressure in these washers is called ‘Bar’.

The three types of petrol pressure washers are:

Light Pressure Washer: They can achieve a strength of 100 Bar. Though most light pressure washers use an electric motor but you can also find ones with a petrol engine. These are ideal for domestic cleaning: outdoor areas, cars, driveways etc. Petrol powered pressures washers can be good for larger domestic cleaning tasks on big properties.

Medium Pressure Washer: They often come in a compact design with metal roll over frame. They have the strength of 110 Bar. These are portable units as they are fitted with pneumatic wheels. Medium pressure washers are best used in commercial tasks by businesses, contractors, tradesmen etc. Since, they use petrol as fuel, these washers should be kept in a properly ventilated area.

Heavy-Duty Pressure Washer: These are recommended for industrial use only. They are used to clean heavy vehicles such as trucks and farm equipment. They can give you a strength output of 110 to 130 Bar. They can be petrol powered and diesel powered machines.

Apart from the types and range, there are some Do’s and Don’ts related to petrol pressure washers that you should know for your reference:

Do’s:
•    Always read the instruction manual properly to ensure safe operation of the machine
•    Make sure that all guards and shields are well placed and working
•    Before you use it check every time for oil levels
•    Wear proper eye, hand and face protection while operating the machine
•    Properly attach the nozzles and other accessories before you start the washer
•    Keep your hands and feet away from the nozzle at all times as the high pressure can cut into the skin and cause severe damage
•    Try using a detergent or cleaning agent to decrease your cleaning time and increase the effectiveness
•    Always keep the water jet pointed away from wires and electrical connections

Don’ts:
•    Never try to fill the fuel tank while the motor is running
•    Do not keep the nozzle closed while the pump is functioning. It may overheat or burn out the motor
•    Do not try to repair the hose while the engine is powered on
•    Do not place any part of your body in front of the running nozzle. It will tear off your skin and cause severe injuries
•    Do not place the nozzle for too long at the same spot if you are cleaning surfaces such as wood or aluminium. It will damage the wooden surface and dent the aluminium
•    Do not directly point it on windows as they are likely to break the glass
•    Do not pressure wash from a ladder. You will need both hands to control the nozzle
