Anti-Drone Technologies and Equipment are Maturing Day by Day

After a long time of development, people are very familiar with the term “drone”. In this context, the unauthorized drone has gradually appeared in people’s daily life, creating momentum and disrupting order at various airports, followed by flight delays. In fact, many passengers have experienced it in person. In terms of electricity, the drone may directly hang to the wire, affecting the circuit and causing a power outage. As for the current mainstream countermeasures against drones, we can divide them into two groups according to their functions.

In order to figure out the technology and level of development of existing drone countermeasure equipment, a number of seminars and competitions on the technology and field test of drone detection and interference equipment have been held in recent years, summarizing five major drone detection technologies: radar detection, radio spectrum detection, photoelectric detection, sound detection, and television broadcast detection.
At present, the more mainstream anti-drone solution in the world is to use radar detection together with photoelectric detection.
Using radar to detect drones mainly depends on ways like designing special algorithms and upgrading software systems to improve the ability of active radar to filter out various types of clutter, thereby improving the accuracy of identifying “low, slow and small” air targets. By this way, it can monitor the general aerial targets and detect and track small drones at the same time.
By integrating electronic sensors such as visible (infrared) sensors, radar, and wireless signal sensing devices, photoelectric hybrid detection achieves rapid detection and effective identification of drones. The specific workflow is as follow: first, electronic sensors will detect suspected drone, then optical sensors will lock and track the target. At the same time, the detected drone images will be compared with the feature parameters in the system database and then automatically determine the target model and analyze the degree of threat. Related equipment is mostly used in complex environments such as cities, and some of them have been put into practical applications.
Judging from the current development, the drone countermeasure technology and equipment are becoming more and more mature, and the countermeasure means are gradually diversifying. However, it should be noted that these anti-drone tasks are very complex. Drone countermeasures in different environments have different operational application requirements, so, drone countermeasures are bound to be comprehensive applications of various means.
