What are adhesives and what are the types we use

Any substance that can hold materials together in a useful way through surface attachment that prevents separation is an adhesive. Cement, mucilage, glue, and paste all fall under the umbrella term "adhesive," which is frequently used to refer to any organic compound that makes an adhesive bond. In the sense that they bind things like bricks and beams together through surface attachment, inorganic chemicals like portland cement can also be regarded as adhesives.

High-performance materials, which finally found their way into both industrial and residential applications, were developed in response to the desire for adhesives that had a high degree of structural strength and were resilient to both fatigue and harsh climatic conditions.

Properties of Tile adhesives

For brand-new tile flooring, polymer-modified cement-based tile adhesives are typically utilized. These adhesives come in powder form and must first be mixed with water before being applied. Compared to regular cement-sand mortar, they provide more strength. Additionally, they have waterproof qualities and can be applied in damp locations like bathrooms, kitchens, swimming pools, etc. To increase its adhesive qualities, other polymers are used, including acrylic, latex, epoxy, etc.

  • Tile glue is moisture-resistant thanks to acrylic. Usually, it is used to fix small-sized tiles. It is simple to fix ceramic tiles, vitrified tiles, natural stone tiles, etc.
  • Tile glue is more flexible thanks to latex. It is perfect for outdoor applications when movement is necessary.

Epoxy aids in improving the strength and hardness of adhesives. Because they are resistant to oils, water, weak acids, weak alkalis, and the majority of solvents, epoxy-modified adhesives can be utilized both internally and externally. The most expensive and powerful tile adhesive is epoxy. Epoxy-modified adhesives have industrial uses, such as gluing corrosion- and chemical-resistant tiles.

Different types of Adhesive from Mapei

Mapei is the best manufacturing construction material manufacturing company in UAE with the best products like sealants, adhesives grouts, etc at the best rate. We are the best tile adhesive suppliers in Dubai

ADESILEX P10

White high-performance cementitious adhesive with no vertical slip and extended open time for glass, ceramic, and marble mosaic coverings.

Applications:

Interior and exterior floor, wall, and swimming pool (mixed with Isolastic diluted 1:1 with water) bonding of glass, ceramic, and marble mosaics on paper or netting on conventional walls with cementitious renders, cementitious screeds, anhydrite screeds, and gypsum walls (specifically primed beforehand), interior walls in foamed concrete blocks, gypsum board, underfloor heating systems, suitably cured concrete structures, painted interior walls, as long as the paint is well anchored. When mixing Adesilex P10 with Isolastic as a 50% substitute for water, the performance characteristics, and deformability improve, satisfying class S1 (deformable adhesive) according to EN 12004. Mixed this way, Adesilex P10 can be used for installations in swimming pools, on flexible and nonporous substrates such as Mapelastic, Mapelastic Smart, Monolastic, Monolastic Ultra, Mapegum WPS, etc., and on existing ceramic coverings.

IDROSTOP

Hydrophilic expandable rubber section for watertight construction joints.

Idrostop is a soft preformed flexible strip, with an acrylic polymer base specially designed to form watertight construction joints up to a hydraulic pressure of 5 atm. Idrostop does not contain bentonite. Due to its chemical composition, Idrostop gradually expands when in permanent contact with water, creating an active barrier against pressurized water (positive and negative).

Idrostop strip can be applied to concrete, metal, PVC, and natural stone with Idrostop Mastic, a ready-to-use solvent-free one-component adhesive with a base of MS polymers.

LATEX PLUS

Latex admixture inducing elasticity to be mixed with Keraquick.

Applications:

Latex Plus is an admixture to be mixed with Keraquick. It improves deformability to meet the requirements of class S2 (highly deformable adhesive), according to EN 12004. A highly deformable, high-performance, fast-setting adhesive with no vertical slip is obtained, suitable for interior and exterior installations of ceramic tiles, stone material, insulation panels, gypsum boards, etc. Latex Plus must be used in complete substitution of batching water. This is the best deformable adhesive in Dubai.

Particularly suitable for rapid installation of ceramic tiles and large-size stone material slabs (façades, balconies, terraces, etc.), in swimming pools and on deformable substrates.

MAPESET

Cement-based adhesive for tiles.

Applications: Internal and external bonding of ceramic tiles and mosaics, single-fired and double-fired tiles for floors, walls and ceilings.
