Conventional coating processes are subjected to various government regulations. This is due to the fact that many of these coating applications have health and safety risks, and exposure to it caused several health problems in the workers in the paint industry such as headaches, low quality of sleep, muscle weakness, and memory issues. Also, in the anti-corrosion paint and coatings have volatile organic compounds, also known as VOC. The high pressure of the coatings allows the molecules to evaporate in the air and come in contact with the workers in close proximity, and can lead to several hazardous diseases such as cancer and other severe health problems. These are the reasons which led the government to put stringent regulations on these type of coatings, and since UV curing coatings doesn’t have all these drawbacks, the stringent regulations of government is strongly supporting the growth of the UV curing market in the coatings segment.

Many adhesives that are used for the bonding & assembling process in the industrial segment release volatile organic compounds. Therefore the government in the respected countries have put regulations on the emission of the VOC content. For instance, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved Clean Air Act section 183(e) for those categories of products that release more than 80% of the VOC emission. Several industrial adhesives have been added in the updated list of the act. In Hong Kong, the government reached a consensus in April 2002 to reduce the regional emission of four major products that included NOx, RSPs, sulphur dioxide, and VOCs by 20%, 55%, 40%, and 55% by 2010 and still continuing to reduce the emissions under the act.

Since the UV curing method includes the reduction in the emission of the volatile organic compounds, therefore it is preferred by majority of applications for the curing method over the traditional curing methods. There are various new trends that emerged in the UV Curing industry which includes increasing adoption of the UV LED curing method in coating sub-segment as well as increasing trend towards UV-cured soft-feel coating method.
