Importance of Collars and Tags for Pets.

A piece of material put around ananimal’s neck for identification purposes is called collar and can also be used to attach a leash to the animal for walks. Collars can be made of leather, nylon or any other material. They are available in all sizes and for most animals. Many of them are fashionable and trendy in their design and are harmless for pets. A collar made out of metal are often used for training purposes and for larger pets. You can also get customized collars or attach a customized tag to the collar. These personalized collars often contain pet’s information and medical details.

There are various types of collars available, lets discussthe differences between a few collars.

Cat Collars – as name suggest these collars are for cats and are rather small in size. These are made according to the cats, so they often have a variety of holes to make the collar smaller or larger. It also has a clasp that in an emergency can be detach easily.  It can be of any material like nylon, metal or leather. Cats are sophisticated animals, so there collars are crafted according to it. Some places will even allow you to design it according to your liking; these are available in different colors and styles. Dog Collars – Dogs collars are different from cat’s collars. These are quite strong and sturdy incomparison to a cat’s collar because they must be able to withstand the pull from a leash. These also come in a variety of colors and materials.Collars for dogs can also come in a range of different collars from anti bark collars, a flea collar, Elizabethan collar, stud collar, break away collar, and a buckle collar. Each different design is explained below.

Anti Bark Dog Collars – these collars release a shock or high oblique noise in response of barking, whenever dog will bark it will release noise which will distract dogs from barking. Besides this sonic collars are also available which works on vibration or on sonic rays. These release high resonance noises which are not hearable to humans. Other than these there are collars which contains electrical device which release mild electric shock when dogs barks loudly.

Buckle Collar – These collars contains buckle like a buckleon a belt. These are helpful and can be used for different dogs according to their neck sizes and you will be able to use the collar as the dog grows by simply expanding the collar. These contain a hook through whichyou can attach a tag with the dog’s identity and owner information as well as used for a leash to be attached. These are also called flat collars. These should be contentedly firm on dog’s neck but lose enough to fit a finger between the dogs neck and the collar.

Flea Collar – These are considered a secondary collar and to be worn with a buckle or other type of collar. It contains chemicals which protects dogs from fleas and parasites. These are available for all pets including horses and cats.

Elizabethan Collar – These collars are crafted to prevent dogs from scratching their wounds. 

Break Away Collar – these are similar like buckle collar but contains a safety lock which will release when excessive force is applied.

Stud Collar – these are leather dog collars containing some sharp or metal beads and more often than not the metal is just for design.
