Climbing DEMAVEND (5670 M) + travel around the cities of Persia (Iran)

Not everyone manages to make a trip to cities that are over three thousand years old. The population of the country is very loyal to all guests. Here you will not meet hostility or rudeness. If you respect the traditions and culture that have been preserved here since ancient times, then this trip will give you a lot of positive and bright moments.

Peculiarities of climbing Damavend
Technically, the mountain is not difficult and from June to the end of October there is practically no snow, trekking boots with hard soles and warm clothes are enough to climb. From November to May, the mountain is covered with a snow cap, so it is more difficult and dangerous, you need cats. At the foot of the mountain is the village of Polur, where we settle on arrival, further along the route we use shelters. One shelter is located at an altitude of 3200, and the main shelter is located at an altitude of 4200 m. We will not walk much. You can get there by car right up to a height of 3200 m. In addition, there is a pack horse service on Damavend that can take your things right to camp 4200. The assault shelter has several rooms and a kitchen, there is electricity. But keep in mind that the room usually accommodates 20-30 people (bunks). The shelter is warm even in the off-season.

A striking feature of the mountain is that there are several fumaroles at the top. Sulfur gases are constantly emitted from them. Therefore, when ascending, the smell of sulfur is very strong and you need to be careful not to inhale the vapors from the fumarole.

Despite the lack of snow in the season, don't underestimate the mountain. Still, the height is more than 5000 m.

Weather on Damavend, climbing season
Ideal conditions for climbing Damavand are summer and early autumn. From June to October in the mountains, stable, dry weather. There is practically no snow in the mountains. In summer, the mountain is very popular with locals, and there are a lot of Iranians in the hut from Thursday to Saturday, which is worth considering when planning your climbing schedule. But in summer the weather is very hot in the cities, so perhaps the best time to visit the mountains and cities is May, September and October.

In November-February, it is winter on the mountain, the temperature is much below zero, the top is covered with snow, strong wind. From March to April, skiers usually go up the mountain. The weather is more or less stable.

May holidays on Damavend. The weather is no longer wintery, but there is still a lot of snow above 4000 m, precipitation and strong winds are possible on some days.
