Posted by UbiBot on October 10th, 2022

Agriculture has been on this earth since the onset of humanity. Both humans and farming have coexisted together with agriculture being one of the major factors for human’s survival and evolution. Throughout the course of time, agriculture has seen numerous revolutions. Even today, agriculture is the backbone of many developed and developing countries.

Internet is today’s big thing and agriculture industry has used it for its best. The convergence of agriculture and the internet has been beneficial, giving rise to IoT-based Smart Agriculture. IoT, also called as ‘Internet of Things’ is an advanced technology that uses various parameters such as sensors, cloud technology, internet and much more to improve productivity and efficiency.

Smart Agriculture- A Boon to the Farming Industry

Smart agriculture has helped the agriculture and horticulture industry a lot. With time, advancements have been made that has helped farmers increase their net productivity of their crops and harvest. IoT has leveled up the game to ensure higher efficiency.

Here’s how the Agriculture Industry has benefitted from Smart Farming

1) Introduction to Precision Farming:

Precision farming or Precision agriculture is a broad term used to describe the various applications of IoT based Smart Agriculture. Precision Farming uses Industrial Wireless Sensors that help down track various parameters such as light intensity, temperature, humidity levels and much more. Not only this, they also relay that information to the farmer with high accuracy and speed.

2) Decreases Manual Labor

One of the major advantages of smart farming is that it decreases the manual labor. The sensors track down the activity while the software adjusts the functions accordingly. This overall helps the farmer to practice a more efficient method of farming.

3) Increases Production

Smart Agriculture uses sensors and computer based software to track down any needs to the crop. This almost eliminates human error and as a result the crop production increases with least human efforts.

4) Livestock Farming

IoT also helps in keeping a check on animals’ health including their reproductive health and breeding. It can be very useful in measuring the hormone levels and other important health parameters which are necessary for an improved livestock.

5) Help Monitor Activities Remotely

Drones can be used to monitor the field while the farmer has an easy access to the live video feed using internet or Wi-Fi. The farmer can keep a check remotely on his farm from any part of the world as long as internet is available.

Thus it is safe to say that Smart Agriculture has proven to be an blessing to the agriculture and horticulture industry.
