Applications and uses of Black Silicon Carbide

Posted by Tom Brady on October 19th, 2022

Black silicon carbide is produced by a process involving the electrochemical reaction of silica and in the form of quartz with Carbon in the form of petroleum coke. The stoichiometric mixture is responded to in an electrical resistance furnace at a temperature great than 2200˚C to yield higher quality crystals. The larger crystals are then segregated, crumpled, cleaned of magnetic impurities in higher intensity magnetic separators, and classified into thin-size fractions to suit the end use. Dedicated lines yield products for different applications.

Applications of Black silicon carbide

The applications of Black silicon carbide are as follows

Refractory, Casting, Ramming Compounds, Refractory Bricks, etc

Blasting, Surface Treatment, and Rust Removal

Cosmetics products business, Beauty crafts and in Dermabrasion, etc

Ceramic products, in Grinding wheels, sandpaper, etc

Glaze, floor coatings, Floor and Wall Laminates

The raw material of Knife Grinders, oilstone, grinding stone, abrasive stones & so on

Used to produce Polishing waxes, polishing fluids, grinding powders, grinding fluid, and so on

Wear-resisting floors and Brake linings

Black silicon carbide grains & powders are produced using numerous techniques to optimize shape, surface areas, and density. The Black Silicon Carbide is used for refractory materials & precision ceramics, as well as pressure blasting, lapping, bonded, and other coated abrasive applications.

The Black Silicon Carbide powders, or micro grits, are used for other refractory materials, precision ceramics, and many other critical applications.

Typical Characteristics of Black silicon carbide:

Crystal Form of Hexagonal which is Alpha SiC

True Density: is 3.21 g/cm3

Melting Point Dissociates at ~2800°C

Hardness is Knoop (100)-2600 and Mohs-9.4

Black silicon carbide is produced at a higher temperature in an electrical resistance arc boiler with quartz and petroleum coke as its raw materials. The final product is very sharp and friable with unresolved electrical and thermal conductivity. Silicon Carbide powders are formed using numerous techniques to enhance shape, surface areas, and density. They are used for wire sawing semiconductor supplies, lapping, fine bonded & coated applications, refractory resources, precision ceramics & other critical applications. Black silicon carbide is a semi-friable abrasive which is often used for general abrasive requests in bonded abrasive tools, polishing, and frosting.  It is tremendously resistant to wear, and corrosion, making it outstanding for sandblasting nozzles, furnace mechanisms, engine mechanisms, high-tech ceramics, etc.  It is also an outstanding choice for recycling as it is a sharp, abrasive that breaks into sharp splinters. We offer all sizes in all grades and colors, including custom marks for volume orders.

Black Silicon Carbide Properties:

It has a high thermal conductivity rating.

It is extremely hard and very much harder than aluminum oxide

Blocky grain will fragment as it breaks down, at fast cutting speeds, and it is great for recycling

It has high strength at elevated temperatures.
