Don't Be Scared of Black Paint Colors

We are in the thick of spooky season aka Halloween so I figures now was the perfect time to talk about black paint colors.

Painting a wall black may seem downright crazy. But I'm here to tell you it's not crazy at all! Black is a truly fantastic paint color to use in your home whether it's on walls, floors, fireplaces, etc, you get the picture. Think of black just like white. It's a neutral that goes with everything. Also black works in every decor style, farmhouse, traditional, modern, any of them.

The key to using black paint is balance. For example, if you use black on the wall, consider using lighter decor and furniture to create a sense of balance in the space. The lighter furniture will keep the room from feeling heavy or weighed down.

If you are not ready to paint a wall black, try painting an old piece of furniture black. This is a great way to incorporate black paint into a space.

Or do as I did and use a black paint color on the fireplace and pair it with a warm white paint color on the walls.

The thing to remember is painting is not permanent, if you are unhappy, you can always paint over it. Also always swatch your paint colors, even black paint! Seeing how the actual paint looks in your home is a must. Sometimes we see a color on a computer screen or in someone else's home and love it. But once that paint color is up on your walls the color may not translate the same as it did on your friend's wall. This is because your homes are different, as in lighting, cardinal direction, decor, etc.  This is why you must sample your colors.

Now with that being said, I have a few amazing black paint colors to share with you.

1. Tricorn Black - Sherwin Williams

2. Onyx - Benjamin Moore

3. Greenblack - Sherwin Williiams

4. Black - Benjamin Moore

5. Black Fox - Sherwin Williams

6. Wrought Iron - Benjamin Moore

All of these colors are amazing, some are true black, others have a bit of an undertone and then there are a couple that is more of a gray black. They are all fantastic and depending on the look you are going for think they are worthy contenders.

Overall, I believe black paint colors are nothing to be scared of, there are so many different places in your home where they can be used. Try experimenting with something small and if you like what you see go bigger. Decorating is meant to be fun and your home is yours to love.

Finally, don't forget to swatch those colors!
