Know About the Procedure of Face Lift Surgery

Lines and wrinkles are not the only enemies. Sagging skin on your neck and jawline can make you look older than your age, too. A facelift surgery is a good option if you want to counter those visible signs of ageing. Skilled and certified cosmetic surgeons can perform different types of facelifts and recommend the right procedure that is most suitable to your requirements. During the procedure, the surgeon will tighten the lower half of your face, the neck, and the jawline to create a more youthful and firmer appearance to your face. Here are some of the things you should know about a face lift surgery procedure:

The Basics

Facelift surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and can take about two to three hours. You will have to stay in the hospital for two nights, and you may experience some pain and discomfort from three to seven days. The surgeon will ask you to follow up after a week, then again after two weeks, and finally, after three months. After surgery, you should excuse yourself from work from two to four weeks and avoid strenuous physical activities for approximately two to six weeks. You will start seeing the final results in 12 weeks, and the scars will continue to improve in 18 months.

Before the Procedure

If you smoke, you will be asked to stop that habit for a while—at least a week before your surgery. If you take certain medications or vitamins (i.e. aspirin, anti-inflammatory non-steroidal medications, homeopathic regimens), you are advised to stop them, too. If you are thinking of dyeing, perming, straightening, or treating your hair, have it done before surgery because you cannot have them performed for a month or more after the procedure.

On Your Surgery Day

The facelift will be conducted in an accredited medical facility or a hospital where your cosmetic surgeon is a legal and acknowledged practitioner. Medications may be given to you for comfort. It is usually up to the surgeon which type of anaesthesia to use, whether general or intravenous sedation (twilight) anaesthesia.

The Procedure

Procedures for a facelift continue to evolve as skilled cosmetic surgeons discover new methods and solutions to restore a tighter and youthful-looking skin. Many of today's techniques are consistently durable and reliable. A typical facelift procedure would involve making incisions behind and in front of your ear. Incisions may extend to the scalp. After making incisions, different degrees of skin undermining may be done, and the deep layers are lifted. Liposuction and muscle tightening of the jowls and jowls may be performed. Any excess skin will be repositioned or removed.
