After a whole day at work, all a person desires is to go back home and have a fine dine with family and friends and relax a bit. A fine dinner includes yummy snacks and a whole main course with a glass of wine. No matter how delicious the food is, it will always be incomplete without a glass or two of wine. Wine is considered a royal drink which is served with meals coming in various types. Many people even hold wine tasting parties and get together as it is considered a classy way of enjoying and bonding with people.

Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes and other fruits mixed with a sugar, acids, water and other nutrients. Earlier it was the drink of kings and queens and now it is served on important occasions where important and rich people are invited. So, for the beginners, it is very important to have a good knowledge about the types of wines available and how to differentiate between the tastes.

Let’s have a brief look at the types of wines:

  • Appetizer Wines: As the name says these wines are consumed prior the meal. These wines contain about 14 to 20% of alcohol which makes them rich and sweet enough to consume before a meal. Vermouth, dry sherry, Madeira are some of the appetizer wines loved by people.
  • Red wines: When it comes to serving a wine with the main course, these wines works the best. Red wines are best served with seasoned foods like red meat or spaghetti as it is fairly a dry tasting drink. For formal occasions, it is converted into a sparkling wine by adding carbon dioxide to it. Champagne, Blanc de Blanc, and spumante are the popular ones loved and perfect for every occasion.
  • White wine: This one is again a wine served with the main course. White wine serves the best with white meat, seafood, and fowls as it contains about 10-14% of alcohol which gives it a lighter taste and perfect for serving with the main course. Semillon, Moscato, Riesling etc are the top favourite wines all across the world.

Well, these were the basic types of wines but there are countries that produce the best quality wines with finest ingredients.
