Black silicon carbide has extreme hardness and uniformity of shape, supreme resistance to breakdown, consistent, higher quality grains, and versatility and is offered in an extensive range of grit sizes

Black silicon carbide has faster cut and surface smoothing, short work cycles, and increased production

Long cutting life, increased cost-effectiveness, lesser dust, and less clean-up

Predictable, and repeatable results

It is ideal for a variety of applications including grinding, polishing, and blasting

Black silicon carbide is an extremely hard crystalline compound used as an abrasive & as a heat refractory material. It is characterized by its hardness; it is hard but less brittle.

Black silicon carbide is used for:

production of abrasive tools & coated abrasives of various types for the processing of hard, and malleable materials, for blade tools sharpening, glass, plastic, and wood grinding, for polishing and smooth finishing of higher precision mechanics;

for semiconductor production

as filler for refractory goods.

It is produced by heating silica sand & a carbon source, typically petroleum coke, to higher temperatures in a large, open furnace.  The result of this higher temperature process is the crystalline form of Silicon Carbide grains, of both Green & Black coloring.  The color difference is due to the cleanliness of the silicon carbide.

Our black silicon carbide is offered in standard FEPA sizes, custom particle dimensions, custom densities, & custom chemistries.

Typical Properties of black silicon carbide

It has a very High Hardness

It has Chemical Inertness

It has a high Thermal Conductivity

It is abrasion Resistance

It has a very low Coefficient of Thermal Expansion

Typical Applications of black silicon carbide

It is used in abrasives and Sintered Parts

It is used in Hot-pressed Parts and reaction Bonded Parts

It is used in Metal Matrix Composites and Wire-saw

It is used in High Temp Sensors and Ceramic Wear Parts

It is used in Refractory, Grinding, and Milling

High-grade black silicon carbide is manufactured by the fusion of petroleum coke & silica sand. One of the toughest products in the synthetic mineral ranges for use in many of applications from general blasting & surface finishing of non-aero components, anti-slip flooring, safe manufacture, coated abrasives, and polishing compounds.

Black Silicon Carbide is unique because of its outstanding abrasive properties. Grains can be utilized in a variety of applications. The grains are used extensively for photovoltaic applications, refractories, and bonded or coated abrasives.

Abrasive black silicon carbide is the perfect material specifically manufactured to be used for overall abrasive applications in bonded abrasive tools, and polishing processes. While silicon carbide has low hardness and abrasive capacity than diamond and boron carbide, it is extensively used for grinding non-ferrous materials, finishing tough & hard materials, and filling up ceramic parts when the meting out cost is important.
