UK Study Visa: Eligibility, Process, and Documents required

You will not require a UK Study Visa to pursue higher education in the UK only if you are a citizen of Switzerland, the EU, or the EEA. Students of all other nations will require a valid UK Study Visa for studying in the UK. You must be aware of the 3 categories of the UK Student Visa if you intend to study in the UK beyond 6 months.

UK Study Visa Short-term

Candidates who intend to study courses in the English Language for a maximum of 11 months will require a Short-term Study Visa.

UK Student Visa

You will require the UK Student Visa for pursuing higher studies in the UK.

UK Child Student Visa

Children aged between 4 to 17 years seeking to study in the UK in an independent school will require Child Student Visa.

Eligibility

Applicants for a UK Study Visa have to fulfill the following requirements:

• You must have obtained an academic course offer from a student sponsor who is licensed
• You must possess adequate monetary resources for supporting yourself during the study program
• You must be able to write, read, speak and understand the English language
• You will require consent from the parents if your age is 16 or 17 years

Documents Required

The following documents are required to apply for the UK Student Visa

• A completed application form for UK Student Visa
• Acceptance Letter for the course applied

The education provider who has accepted you will offer you a CAS - Acceptance Letter and Visa Letter.  These are unconditional and formal offers for a place for a study course. The Visa Letter has to be offered not more than 6 months prior to your application. The applications will be refused if the Visa Letters are older than 6 months.

·  Evidence  of funds 

The funds that you have to display include the first-year course fees and living costs for up to 9 months. The funds are variable depending on if you are an adult or child applicant. It will also be influenced if your location is in London or out of it.

You have to demonstrate the funds for catering to living costs only for a 9 months period based on the location. It is £12,006 if you are staying in London and £9,207 if you are residing outside London.

· The receipt for confirmation of payment of visa fees

· Salary slips

· Provisional Certificates / Original marks sheets

· Test results of exams such as IELTS, TORFL, GMAT, etc

UK Student Visa Process

Step 1

In the first step, you have to confirm if you are eligible for the UK Study Visa or not. You must demonstrate that you possess the following:

· CAS - Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies: It confirms your place at the College, University, or School in the UK where you plan to study

· Adequate funds otherwise termed as ‘maintenance or funds’ for covering your course fees and costs for living in the UK

Arrange all the documents required for the Visa application

Apply online

You are required to enroll and create an account on the official website for UK Visas. After completing your application form online, you must take a printout and include your signature on it. For booking appointments at the Visa application center, you have to use the digital appointment calendar.

Once you complete the online application, you will be sent a message in an email confirming your application number.

Step 4

Make a payment of the fees for visa application. You have 4 options for payment:

· Pay at Standard Chartered Bank – the payment can be made at a few branches of this bank. The bank will offer you a Demand Draft in the goodwill of “The British High Commission”.

· Demand Draft from an Overseas or Nationalized Bank:  The payment of fees can be made through a DD from an Overseas or Nationalized Bank. The charges for this service are variable based on the bank. The DD has to be in the goodwill of “The British High Commission”.

· Pay at VAC - Visa Application Centre: The payment of fees can also be made at VAC while filing your Visa application

· Online Payment:  The payment of fees can be made online by a Visa or MasterCard – Debit or Credit Card

Step 5

You have to visit the VAC on the date of your appointment. The appointment has to be booked in advance for submitting the application, fingerprints, and photographs.

The UK Study Visa applications are usually processed within 3 weeks of the submission of the complete application.
