How businesses market with LinkedIn

First of all, there is no "right" way to use LinkedIn for business.

Some businesses see the platform as a tool to build their brand. Some people use it to find jobs.

To build a presence on LinkedIn, it's important to know how brands use the site as a whole. Here's a quick look at how most companies use LinkedIn.

Content distribution

Anything that B2B brands can do to make their content strategies work better is a good thing.

LinkedIn has become very popular as a way to share B2B content. In particular, content that helps brands show that they are experts in their fields. For personal accounts, sharing content is all about showing that you are an expert in your field.

This means, for starters, sharing any combination of the following:

• Blog posts

• Case studies

• Customer success stories

• Reviews and testimonials

• Videos (think: interviews, webinar snippets, tips)

Getting the word out about company news and big wins

Think about how LinkedIn is both a place to meet people and a way to get news.

If you want to know what's going on with a company in your field, you'll probably find it front and centre on LinkedIn. Brands and personal accounts can break their own news by saying:

• When new products or services come out

• Major company milestones, like the number of employees hired or the number of years in business (think: going public, getting funded)

• Giving a sneak peek at the most important upcoming content (think: case studies or annual surveys)

Putting the focus on company culture: Many brands use company culture as the centre of their LinkedIn strategies for positioning and hiring.

This is another way for businesses to make themselves stand out. Not to mention bring in new people. Some common ways to show off culture are:

• Posting about new hires

• Taking a stand on social issues

• Posting about a "day in the life" of the company

• Posting about company events (like "behind-the-scenes" posts from retreats or conferences)

Getting leads is called lead generation.

Things to think about: Last year, LinkedIn made more than billion from ads while also getting more people to join on their own.

It is well known that the platform is a hub for B2B sales. Still, getting leads from LinkedIn is a matter of finding the right balance. Both brands and salespeople need to be aware of how they nurture leads and make sales. You won't get anywhere by being too pushy.
