World of Warcraft 's new Chains of Domination update for the Shadowlands WoTLK Gold expansion adds an all-new mount. It's an enormous tree you can ride on and stomp around on. Finally. It's likely to be my most anticipated part in the new version (I am just joking slightly).

At BlizzConline I had a conversation with WoW principal game creator Jeremy Feasel about this mount and the story behind it and why it's unique and how it ties in to the broader lore of WoW.

Blizzard has launched a survey for players a while ago, asking players what they'd like to get from a new mount, and allowing them to decide what the mount will be. The goal was to work closely with the community in a fresh method to allow players to feel more connected with Azeroth as well as the World of Warcraft universe. Other options that were offered in the survey were the possibility of a huge book that you could ride on, a cat made from jelly, a caterpillar as well as an eerie spider.

It was the Wandering Ancient was the most well-liked choice Feasel claimed. "By an enormous margin, everywhere, the giant walking tree was the winner," he said.

The fans of The Lord of the Rings will be familiar with the huge trees that walk with the Ents However, they are not the only ones. Ancients are also an important element of the World of Warcraft lore and Night Elves specifically.

"There's the mythology of being able to ride on top of a huge trees," Feasel buy WOW WoTLK Classic Gold told me about the depiction of giant walking trees in films like The Lord of the Rings. "But there's more, Night Elves have this long and rich lore of ancient guardians and ... the lore extends all the way into World of Warcraft. It seems like there's an element of the player base who has always been wishing to ride one of these beasts. They finally found their way."
