By converting Brown's base salary into a signing bonus the Steelers can divide his cost over the rest of Brown's contract. This reduces his salary cap in 2013. According to the report the agreement will save Pittsburgh .08 million next season, a considerable number for a team that began in the offseason with a total of million over the salary cap.

Brown is the latest Steeler to restructure as Linebacker Lawrence Timmons reworked his deal on Tuesday.
