Planning a Bathroom on the Gold Coast

Bathroom renovationsIf you have a bathroom renovation in the future and you've decided to do it yourself, there are some things you need to do to prepare yourself for the Project. Even if you hire a professional contractor to do the job for you, you'll still have to prepare for the big day when the renovations start. After all, it doesn't just involve making a budget and letting the rest fall into place.

You have to pay attention to local laws and codes and even decide on the materials you want to use for the renovations, and all of these things take a little planning ahead of time. Fortunately, you can make it a little easier on yourself if you keep the following things in mind.

1. Complete Renovation vs. a Refresh

Bathroom renovations in the Gold Coast can include a complete renovation or just a refresh, so you'll have to decide which one of these interests you most. If you choose a renovation, it can cost you 300 to 800 per square meter, whereas a refresh might only cost 400 to, 4700 dollars total.

With a refresh, you'll go in and repaint the walls, refinish the bathtub, replace the countertop or sink, and put new window treatments or light fixtures in. You can do more than this as well, but if you're just replacing and repairing fixtures, it'll cost a lot less than a total renovation.

2. Make up a Realistic Budget

This can be difficult, but it's an important part of the process. It can cost up to ,000 or even more to renovate your bathroom, depending on the size, although most people do not spend that much. You'll have to have a budget before you get started, especially if you're planning to take out a loan for the Project.

Just keep in mind that if you decide to sell your house in the future, an updated bathroom can be a huge selling point. The return on your investment when renovating a bathroom is around 60% or more for a total renovation, which is an impressive number.

3. Start Early on the Project

If you want successful bathroom renovations on the Gold Coast, you have to start planning early. Starting around six months before the Project starts, here are some things you'll need to do:

  • Research local building regulations and find out if there are any permits needed. Also, check local zoning and other laws that might affect the Project.
  • Make a drawing of what you want the floor plan to look like. This is the easiest way to start figuring out exactly what you'll need for the Project to take place.
  • Determine which products and materials you need and where you'd like to start purchasing them from. Write down everything that you've purchased for inventory purposes.
  • Arrange for a dumpster to be set up if you need to, and set up a contingency plan for the bathroom.
  • Take lots of "before" pictures and start removing everything from the bathroom. Place protective covering in the room to protect the floors, air vents, etc.

Even if you hire a contractor for the job, many of these tasks will still be necessary. But the more prepared you are, the easier the Project will be for you.
