Why Is Writing Important To A Child?s Development?

Posted by ryan diaz on June 27th, 2016

When we think about creative writing, we tend to think about using one’s imagination to tell stories and express one’s self. But, did you know that creative writing is also about building self-confidence, communication skills, persuasion skills, and problem solving?

A well-written story takes a lot of thought, a lot of careful planning, much organization and the use of the proper words to convey thoughts properly and clearly.

Working on writing, editing and revising really builds self-confidence, giving children more opportunity to assert themselves and their opinions.

Children who practice creative writing are more often better in other subject areas too, like math, science and languages because they challenge themselves to think and problem solve creatively. Problem solving is an important discipline needed in all aspects of life.

Creativity seems to disappear as most of us age. Adults are pressured with life and reality which push the fairy tales and creative thoughts out of our minds. Encourage young children to write, to use their imaginations. Tell kids it is great to write about their thoughts and feelings. Then think about publishing those stories as a keepsake on one of the many kid-friendly publishing sites out there to reward their efforts like Scribblitt.com. Happy Scribbling!
