In recent years, many car companies have come up with various oil monitoring analysis systems that enhance the efficiency of vehicles, thus saving valuable fuel and money. Oil polishing systems are also important in this era. They are related with improving the quality of recovered oil by employing various methods.

Fuel polishing is basically the removal of contaminants from oil fuel or other hydrocarbon fuels. Water, sediment and microbial contaminants are the most common particles that need to be removed from fuels or oils. They decrease the performance and overall efficiency, which is very undesirable. The above-mentioned contaminants are generally called ‘fuel bugs’. Fuel polishing systems are essential when it comes to fuels like diesel, red diesel or biodiesel.

The presence of contaminants in engines can be detected by some symptoms that are associated with them. One such symptom is the failure of the engines. This appears only in the case of high contaminants level. If fuel injectors are worn out then there is a chance for the presence of contaminants. Other symptoms involve blocks and corrosions. Filters get blocked by these particles and thus engines’ tanks get corroded.

On the other hand, filtration of oil varies with respect to the level of contamination. So the level of contamination is specified by labeling. The three levels specified are negligible, moderate and heavy. Negligible levels are minor and do not affect the engine’s performance considerably. Thus, it can be neglected. Moderate levels require immediate treatment with polishing techniques. Some simple biocide can be used for this purpose. Heavier level of contaminants calls for a full cleanse of engines and storage tanks, as it is above the levels of polishing treatments.

Oil monitoring analysis systems of different brands employ different methods to get the required results. In one such systems, sensors are used. These sensors detect or measure the electrical conductivity of the oil. If this value is high, the need for oil change also increases. This data is further combined with information from other sensors and then compiled with suitable algorithms to decide the frequency of oil change. This helps maintain the oil quantity that further results in better efficiency.

Although oil monitoring analysis systemsare being adopted by many companies worldwide, they have not been considered a breakthrough by any means. No statistics or comparisons are available that showhow much benefits they offer as compared to the conventional systems. Even today, many drivers do not completely trust the drain intervals recommended by these systems. Some argue that they drain the oil too quickly, thus leading to poor fuel conservation.They also do not promise complete accuracy, as the oil quality is not measured by these systems. The information about this is also not clearly stated anywhere.
