Boxing News - What's Happening in Boxing

Boxing news covers everything from how the muaypakyok world's best boxers will fare in their fights to what's happening in the sport. From the big fights between the heavyweights to the upcoming lightweight showdown, there's plenty to cover and read about.

Pacquiao accepts challenge to fight Anthony Mundine

The Philippines' most popular boxer, Manny Pacquiao, has accepted the challenge from former middleweight champion Anthony Mundine. They will face each other in June in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. It would be the first time the two have faced each other since a controversial 2021 defeat.

Mundine is an Australian who has won a number of national titles in his country's four major weight divisions. His career has included a run of stoppage victories over Antonio Aguilar and Denny Moyer. He has also beaten Zab Judah for the vacant IBF welterweight title in 2008.

Pacquiao, a seven-time world champion, has won titles in the light, middle, and heavyweight divisions. He has fought Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, and Shane Mosley.

Mundine has been in the headlines recently for his victory over Sugar Shane Mosley and his call for a fight with Money Mayweather. However, he has also been accused of being "a fighter with a glass chin."

Despite being a flamboyant sports star, Mundine is not known to be at his best. In fact, he was last seen being violently knocked out by Michael Zerafa in 2021. As a result, he has been reluctant to fight in the United States.

Mundine's promoter Peter Maniatis has been in talks with Pacquiao advisor Sean Gibbons. Oceania Fight Promotions, a local promotional outfit, has been working on arranging an exhibition bout for the two.
Anthony Joshua can't have any doubts leading up to his comeback fight

Aside from being a former gold medal winner at the Olympic Games, Anthony Joshua is also a heavyweight legend. He has fought and defeated some of the biggest names in the sport including Wladimir Klitschko and Kubrat Pulev.

He has held titles at two weight classes, the light and heavyweights. However, his reign at the top of the heavyweight division was short lived.

Aside from being a great fighter, Joshua is an interesting personality. He has made a number of statements on the topic of his mental health, including claiming that he is a 'free spirit'. His 'bad boy' reputation has been well documented.

While he has not been out of the ring since his defeat to Ruiz, he did visit trainers Ronnie Shields and Virgil Hunter, and has spent a considerable amount of time working with Eddy Reynoso. But Joshua could have done much more to prepare for the Usyk rematch.

The first thing he did was ditch his longtime trainer Rob McCracken. He paired up with Mexican-American veteran Robert Garcia.

Although Joshua has never formally trained in the United States, he did take a trip there to meet with his new team. It is expected that Joshua will have a comeback fight sometime in April.

In addition, Joshua is said to have axed his longtime coach after the Usyk rematch. However, he was not willing to mention the name of his new team or the coaching he used in the fight.
Anthony Yarde discovers that playing for points is not his style

If Anthony Yarde is to win his next fight, then he will need to come up with the goods. He needs to find a way to beat Artur Beterbiev, who is a two-time Olympian and one of the world's best light heavyweights.

The British boxer is confident of winning. But he's also a bit worried about Beterbiev's power.

Arthur's jab is tough to beat. It blunts the opponent's attempts to close the distance. As the bell rings, he sneers at Yarde. His most impressive shot of the night was a double jab that scored three points.

The first round stoppage over Alex Theran was meaningless. However, the second round was a doozy. Arthur shook off most of Kovalev's punches, then rocked Yarde's head back with a stiffer shot of the night.

Luckily, Yarde won the fight in a comeback. Arthur's fans were in the crowd. They were yelling that Yarde was broken. That's not how you win a fight, though.

He's got the height, reach and athleticism to take advantage of Arthur's strengths. But he'll need to be ready to counter the jab with his own slick moving skills.

What Anthony Yarde should do is start fast. He must push Kovalev back, and he'll need to keep the fight interesting in the early rounds. Hopefully, he'll be able to slam him in the middle rounds.

The WBO light heavyweight title is still on the line, and he could put himself in a good position to take it. With a victory, Yarde can put himself in prime position for the fight of his life against Canelo Alvarez in May.
Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have entered into negotiations for a massive unification fight. It's expected to happen around March.

Fury is a heavyweight boxer, holding the WBC title. He's also a former Olympic gold medalist. Despite his success in the ring, he has been out of action for almost two years. During this time, he's been fighting lower-ranked opponents in the hope of making money.

Usyk is a Ukrainian. His professional record is 20-0. In addition to his win against Joshua, he has also beaten Marco Huck, Murat Gassiev, Mairis Briedis, and Tony Bellew.

A lot of people have been looking forward to this upcoming unification battle. If the boxing gods had their way, it would be held at Wembley Stadium. But that's not likely.

It's possible that the two will battle in the Middle East or Saudi Arabia. However, they are also eyeing a more traditional venue. That could mean Tyson Fury's home turf in England.

There's no definitive confirmation yet, but Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usky have been in discussions for a while. This could all fall into place in the next eight weeks.

TalkSPORT's Michael Benson has revealed that a potential date for the fight is now in the works. The pair are targeting an early March date.

The fight is still under negotiation and a purse agreement has not been finalized. Frank Warren, co-promoter for both, is working on the fight.
Rocky Fielding's retirement from boxing

Rocky Fielding has retired from the world of boxing. The British-born fighter announced his decision on social media. In a career that spanned 13 years, Fielding had a record of 30 wins, including three title fights, and 3 losses.

He had a KO rate of 54.5% and fought an average of four and a half rounds. It was a career that surpassed many fans' expectations. One fan described him as a great prizefighter.

Fielding's final fight ended his career. He was defeated by Dan Azeez in an eight-round light heavyweight bout in December. This was only Fielding's third defeat, and he had lost his first two.

His final loss came against one of the best boxers in this era. It was a fight that may have changed his life. But it wasn't enough to convince Fielding to retire.

After the Canelo fight, Fielding decided to take on some lesser known opponents. These included Timo Laine and Emmanuel Danso. Each of these bouts resulted in stoppages. They also highlighted Fielding's ability to fight from the orthodox stance.

Fielding has also received good money from his boxing career. However, he hasn't fought anybody noteworthy since December. He could possibly face Chris Eubank Jr. or Caleb Plant in a few months.

While Fielding's retirement announcement was not surprising, it was disappointing to his fans. Fans had hoped to see him back in the ring.
WBO #1 light heavyweight Anthony Yarde

If you're into boxing you have most likely heard of British light heavyweight Anthony Yarde. The 31-year-old has won 23 out of his 25 professional fights, and has become a WBO mandatory challenger. Despite his impressive record, the British native hasn't fought since December last year. However, he'll have a chance to rectify that when he faces unified world light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev on January 28 in London.

As a young man, Yarde had an affinity for rugby and basketball, but his passion for boxing took over. His coach noticed his potential early on and helped him to develop his skills. He made his professional debut in May 2015.

Anthony Yarde is currently ranked by the WBO as the number one light heavyweight in the world. Although his record isn't as strong as that of a number of other top contenders, he's still an aggressive fighter. In his last five starts, he's won four of them.

He's also had the chance to knock out his opponents in six of his first ten. Unfortunately, he's never been able to derail Richard Baranyi.

It's difficult to ignore the fact that Yarde was a close loser to former world title challenger Sergey Kovalev. Kovalev slowed down the speedy Yarde in the second round and then blasted him out in the 11th.

Despite his disappointing loss, Yarde will look to make up for it in the next fight. He's got a chance to face two-time Olympian and unbeaten Russian puncher Artur Beterbiev in London.
