As weather-resistant steel, Corten Steel Plates are also known as “Atmospheric Corrosion Resistant Steel”.

Its chemical composition promotes the formation of an adhering protective layer of rust when exposed to the elements. Corten Steel Sheet is copper chromium alloy steel. Compared to other unalloyed steels, it is more resistant to atmospheric weathering.

This is a high-strength, low-alloy structural steel with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance, suitable for structural steel shapes such as angles, channels, beams, as well as steel plates and bars.                             

When properly exposed to the atmosphere, A242 corten plate atmospheric corrosion resistance is substantially better than that of carbon steels such as A36 and A572-50 with or without copper additions.

The minimum yield point of ASTM A588 grade A weathering steel plate is 345Mpa at 100mm thickness. It has been designed to provide high resistance to atmospheric corrosion, especially in urban environments. It is suitable for many applications in bare conditions when exposed to the atmosphere properly.                                  

In urban environments, corten b steel is better suited for load-bearing and heavy structures due to its high resistance to atmospheric corrosion. 

It can be delivered in a variety of conditions, such as hot rolled, cold rolled, normalized, quenched, tempering, thermal mechanical control process (TMCP), and HIC test. The density of a 3mm corten steel sheet is 7.85 grams per cubic centimeter or 23.55 kilograms per square meter.
