Cleaning Thermacell Blinds

If you are looking to maintain a regular temperature in different rooms in the home while controlling light coming in and improving the look of the room you should consider honeycomb blinds also called thermal blinds. You can also save money on your heating and cooling bills. However in order to keep them looking great and being great insulators it is a good idea to keep them clean. It also helps the blinds in terms of their lifespan. People can have these types of blinds in any room of the house.

Use a vacuum to remove dust

If you have cleaned them recently and there is just dust on them then you can remove that dust using a vacuum. It is very easy and quick to do, keep the blinds in the closed position and remove the dust with the suction. When you dust regularly you prevent that from turning into something more yucky that might stain.

Use a good quality soap

Rather than using chemicals that can cause damage you should use just soap and water though a good quality soap is advisable. Soap and water will not cause damage to the material of the blinds or affect the shape of the cells while still being highly effective at removing things like grease, dust, stains and such. It is advisable with thermacell blinds to clean before the grime gets into the inner part of the cells as then it can dry out there and get stuck there.

Do a test spot first

Before you start fully washing the blinds it is always a good plan to test a small spot first even when you are not using harsh chemicals to make sure nothing is going to damage them. Then use a soft towel to remove the damp spot and check to see if a mark has been left behind on the blind. Cleaning them improves how they function.

Soaking works

You can choose another way of removing dirt by keeping them soaking in water. If you have especially grimy blinds this is quite effective as it makes it easier to them wipe them with a cloth in the soapy water and clean them. Thermal blinds can then be hung up to dry them somewhere or you can use something like a hairdryer on them to reach into those cells. Try not to hold the super hot air stream super close to the blinds though.

Summary

Whether you use a vacuum cleaner to clean and dust your thermacell blinds or you use a sponge or cloth with soapy water to clean them, or a combination of the two, it is important to keep them clean and have a regular cleaning schedule. Blinds that start developing a yellow tint to them do so when they are aging or when they have not been cleaned them regularly and properly. If you are not able to handle cleaning the blinds yourself or prefer not to, you can hire a professional blind cleaning service to do the work for you.
