Know About the Procedure of Full Body Liposuction

Did you know that more than 4,000 liposuction procedures are done in the UK each year? Liposuction—also known as fat removal surgery—is one of the most requested cosmetic surgical procedures in the country. Are you considering undergoing this procedure? Here’s everything you need to know.

First of all, you are not alone in battling the bulge. It is very common for people to accumulate fat as they grow older. Even with proper diet and regular exercise, some individuals simply can’t lose the excess weight. A full body liposuction can be the solution for banishing stubborn fat.

During a liposuction procedure, the plastic surgeon will make an incision and then use a cannula to suction fats from the body. This operation may be quite rigorous and leave you with bruises and soreness. To minimize pain and reduce downtime, many surgeons now use lasers to break down fats into smaller parts for easier suction.

A typical full body liposuction can take anywhere from one to two hours, depending on the condition of the patient. General anaesthesia is required and most patients need to stay at least one night at the hospital, though there are some cases when patients can go home straight after the procedure.

It is very important to know that not everyone will be allowed to undergo liposuction. A professional plastic surgeon will always assess a patient first. If you have a poor lifestyle of excessive drinking and smoking, then you may not be an ideal candidate for a liposuction procedure. The same goes for people with poor health and medical conditions that may put their lives at risk during surgery.

Expect swelling and bruises—and even temporary numbness and skin irregularities—after liposuction. You will also experience pain and discomfort for about a week after the procedure. Take note that you have to follow-up with your surgeon after a week and also three months after the surgery.

As much as possible, full body liposuction patients should keep off their feet and stay in bed for two weeks. This means you need to take time off work for about half a month. Exercising and sports will also be out of the picture for about four weeks. Since an incision will be made on your body, a scar is bound to appear. Don’t worry—it should improve in 18 months.
