Jurgen Klopp Is Not Happy With His Two-Match Touchline Ban

Jurgen Klopp is unhappy with his two-match touchline ban and wants to know where the money went after being fined PS75,000 by the FA for comments he made against referee Paul Tierney after Liverpool's 4-3 win against Tottenham.

Klopp initially claimed Tierney had it out for him and engaged in a heated exchange with fourth official John Brooks following Diogo Jota's late winner. Since then, however, he has publicly apologized for questioning the integrity of a whistler.

What do I expect?

The Football Association have issued Jurgen Klopp with a PS75,000 fine for criticising referee Paul Tierney following his comments that Tierney held animus towards Liverpool following their 4-3 win against Tottenham last month. Klopp accepted his punishment but wants the money donated towards a good cause.

The German has admitted he expected a longer ban and has expressed dismay about where the money goes if it does not go towards supporting good causes. If necessary, he plans to contact FA officials should his fine not be used properly.

Klopp will miss Saturday's match against Aston Villa as he bids farewell to James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who will leave Anfield this season. Liverpool remain hopeful of finishing in the top four this year and hope that Manchester United drop points during their final three games of the campaign.

Will I have to talk to the FA again?

Klopp was fined PS75,000 after alleging referee Paul Tierney had something against Liverpool during their 4-3 victory against Tottenham on April 30. Although he apologized and wrote an official letter of explanation to the FA, that did not suffice in mitigating any punishment that may follow as his poor disciplinary record and not adhering to previous conduct warnings were aggravating factors.

Klopp took some time to perfect his Gegenpress method on Merseyside, but this season has seen Liverpool challenge Manchester City for one of the four spots - something no other club in the league has managed yet. They currently lead Newcastle and Manchester United by one point each with two games still left against each of them.

Liverpool will host their last home game of the season against Aston Villa on May 18th and pay tribute to James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita who all confirmed they will leave Liverpool this week. Jurgen Klopp will not be in the technical area during this game but may come onto the pitch afterward to participate in tributes to these individuals.

Will the money go to a good cause?

Daniel Sturridge has been fined by the Football Association after being charged with instructing his brother to place bets on his move from Liverpool to Sevilla during January's transfer window. This breached betting regulations and led to this punishment from FA.

Jurgen Klopp has expressed disbelief at where his PS75,000 fine will go following being banned from both sideslines for two matches - with one suspension - as well as receiving an additional fine for his comments about referee Paul Tierney. Klopp will miss Saturday's clash against Aston Villa and another one against West Ham United 2023-24 should any further breaches of FA rules occur during that timeframe.

Klopp was charged after his post-match comments during Liverpool's 4-3 win against Tottenham last month were deemed inappropriate and brought the game into disrepute, accusing Tierney of having something against Liverpool and angrily confronting fourth official John Brooks after Diogo Jota's stoppage-time winner were both inappropriate and brought the FA into disrepute.

Will I be able to train?

Klopp has no intention of postponing Liverpool's return to training ahead of Saturday's Premier League match at Brighton despite FA's sanctions, with James Milner (hamstring) and Virgil Van Dijk (foot). Both should feature in training.

Klopp stated that his squad will train as per normal, with small groups operating under social distancing guidelines and returning to Melwood on July 8 with international players joining three days later.

Fenway Sports Group has made clear its determination to secure Jurgen Klopp as manager until 2026, when his contract runs out. Now with two years remaining on his previous deal and having committed himself to Champions League qualification in his new contract extension agreement.
