While many industries can justifiably claim to be “people-oriented”, there are very few industries for which that is more the case than the catering industry. So, it seems befitting to us to put a spotlight on the personalities and capabilities of our own people – and who better to start with than our founder, AlixCaiger

Alix may now be one of London’s renowned caterers, but that wasn’t something she achieved overnight. She has long had a deeply held passion for food, the sourcing of ingredients, and working for herself – so, it should be no great surprise that barely a year after graduating from the University of Leeds in 2010, she established Caiger& Co Catering in pursuit of her dream.  

And of course, it wasn’t merely a dream realised for herself – much the same could be said for her highly skilled and driven team of chefs and in-house event planners. Working closely alongside Alix since 2011, they have helped to make Caiger& Co one of the success stories of the UK capital’s catering scene in recent years. 

Sustainability, a bespoke service, and strong ethics – fundamental elements in Caiger&Co’s success 

Although Alix was certainly committed to ensuring she received the right training on her route to the top of the London catering sector – graduating from Leith’s School of Food and Wine in 2012, with a certificate in culinary arts – it was not only the comprehensive knowledge that this education gave her, that helped her to success. 

That’s because that she was also sure to imbue Caiger& Co with a definite philosophy; one centred on sustainability, eco-friendliness, and a strong ethical approach to every aspect of the business’s operations. 

This clear ethos has guided Alix and her team in putting together all manner of fine dining dinners, bespoke events, and even immersive events standing for more than simply the most succulent and rewarding cuisine – as imperative a priority as the latter undoubtedly is. 

Much could be said about the business’s sustainability approach alone; in Alix’s own words, “we strive to ensure that all our ingredients are locally sourced from suppliers who honour the taste of each season, as we do. Food waste is reduced by creative cooking; wherever possible we transform leftovers into a new culinary experience.” 

But the bespoke nature of Caiger&Co’s service is also utterly crucial to understanding how AlixCaiger has sought to make a distinctive contribution to what was already an exceedingly competitive London catering sector, even at the time she set up the company in 2011. 

Again, as Alix herself has put it: “We are a bespoke catering company, so the first question we ask our clients is ‘what food do you like to eat?’ If we are cooking for a wedding, we like to ask questions like ‘how did you two meet?’ and ‘where is a place that holds significance for you?’ By asking these questions, we can reflect a client’s story in the food.” 

More than a decade in business, and Alix – and Caiger& Co – aren’t looking back 

Fast-forward to 2023, and AlixCaiger can look back with pride on the achievements of her company and team, as well as the challenges they have overcome, including amid the turbulence of the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, which forced her and her staff to move quickly to adapt to a fast-changing landscape. 

Well, she would be able to look back, if she had much time to do that! For Caiger& Co, more than a decade on from its establishment, reflecting on the past isn’t about nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake; it is more about learning lessons for the future, to help ensure every element of the business’s present-day service continues to be expertly optimised. 

With the company’s roll call of clients to date having included all manner of top event companies and corporate firms, as well as celebrities such as Jerry Hall, Kelly Hoppen, and The Rolling Stones, it has been quite the enthralling journey so far.
