How to Fix a Marshmallow Bed

1. Remove the Headboard

The Marshmallow bed is a raised cat bed that provides an intimate cuddle-like feeling for your pet. It also offers head and neck support during naps and is ideal for cats with anxiety.

Unlike traditional beds, these beds have walls that "swallow" your pet's body for added comfort. These walls also help to limit noise and light, making them a great choice for homes with other pets or young children.

Before you can remove the headboard, you must first disconnect the footboard and headboard from the side rails. You can do this by loosening the bolts or screws that connect them to the rails with a screwdriver. Once you have disconnected the footboard and headboard, you can pull them away from the frame and set them aside. You may need to use a block to help you lift them.
2. Remove the Mattress

A marshmallow bed features a fluffy, soft mattress that is often quilted. This makes it easy to clean, which is important because pet beds harbor millions of disease-causing germs. A clean bed will also encourage your cat to use it. In addition, regular washing will help to prevent odor and fleas. It is best to hand wash your mattress, however, because machine washing can cause it to compact and lose its shape over time. Choosing the right mattress depends on your personal preferences, physical needs, and home decor.
3. Remove the Bed Frame

While it may not be the cheapest option, the Marshmallow bed is comfortable and stylish. It is also machine washable, making it easy to clean. Washing your cat bed regularly is important to keep it free from fleas and odor, and to prevent wear and tear.

First, remove the box springs and mattress from the bed. Once the mattress is gone, you can begin disassembling the frame. Depending on your bed, it may have a platform or slats that support the mattress. These slats can usually be rolled up and set aside, but you may need to disconnect them from the rails. If you’re unsure of how to do this, consult your owner’s manual for more instructions. Once the slats are disconnected, you can begin removing the rails from the headboard and footboard. This can be done by loosening the bolts that attach the rails to the headboard and footboard.
4. Remove the Frame from the Headboard

Most bed frames have decorative headboards and footboards that need to be removed before you can remove the frame. The process for removing the frame from the headboard will vary depending on the type of headboard and footboard you have, but it will usually involve unscrewing several screws or bolts. To make this process easier, it is a good idea to place the bolts and screws in a plastic storage bag. This will help prevent them from getting lost during disassembly and reassembly.

Begin by identifying the bolt holes on the side rails of the bed frame. There will likely be pins sticking out in four locations on each of the side rails, indicating that the two sections can be separated. Once the pins are loose, you can pull them length-wise to separate the side rails.
5. Remove the Frame from the Mattress

Many modern beds do not use box springs, but instead rely on a series of slats to support the mattress. These slats are often joined together and can be rolled up for easy removal. It is important to number the slats before they are removed so that they can be put back in the same order later.

Once the slats and platform are removed, the bed frame can be easily disassembled. Each part should be placed in a plastic storage bag to keep them from being stained or flattened during transportation.

It is also a good idea to label each bag so that the necessary parts can be found when it is time to reassemble the bed. This will help ensure that no pieces are lost or misplaced during the assembly process. Additionally, it will help prevent rusting.
6. Remove the Bed Frame from the Headboard

Depending on the headboard, the bed frame may be screwed or bolted to it. If it is screwed, use a screwdriver to remove the screws. If it is bolted, use a wrench to loosen the bolts. It is a good idea to have a plastic bag on hand to place all of the bolts and nuts in to prevent losing them during the removal process.

Once all of the hardware is removed, it’s time to remove the bed frame from the headboard. This is easiest done with a friend, so grab one and start unscrewing. Remember to keep the mattress and box spring off of the bed frame to avoid any injuries. If the bed doesn’t have a box spring, it probably rests on a platform or series of slats. Remove the slats and stack them together.
7. Remove the Frame from the Mattress

When the bed frame is completely disassembled, store it properly to prevent mold, dirt, and pests. It is also best to remove the mattress from the frame before storing it. This will protect the inner box springs from damage and prolong their lifespan.

Next, detach the storage side rails from the head and footboards if they are attached. They are usually screwed or bolted to the main frame, so be sure to use a screwdriver of the right size to do so safely. Once again, some beds are very heavy, so it is important to have someone to help you handle them. As you do so, be sure to remove the screws and bolts and place them in a bag so that you don’t lose them. This will make reassembly much easier. Also, be sure to label the bags so that you know what goes where when reassembling the bed.
8. Remove the Bed Frame from the Headboard

Depending on the size of your bed, it may be helpful to remove the headboard and foot board before starting the disassembly process. This will help to make the frame construction lighter and safer to transport.

If your bed does not have a box spring, it will likely rest on slats that extend between the rails. These slats are usually joined together and can be rolled up or unscrewed from the rails. It is important to do this systematically, and we recommend using a numbering or coloured tape system to help you keep track of which slats go where.

Once all the slats are detached from the rails, it is time to begin disassembling the frame. Start with the footboard, as it will be easier to remove than the headboard. Remove any bolts and screws that you find, and place them in a plastic storage bag so they are easy to locate during reassembly.
9. Remove the Bed Frame from the Mattress

A bed frame can be a bulky and heavy piece of furniture. To make it easier to transport and store, you should consider disassembling the frame before moving. This will help you save space and reduce the risk of injury.

Start by removing the headboard and footboard. Then, remove the screws and bolts from the frame. Put them in a bag, and label it to help you find them during reassembly.

If your bed does not use a box spring, the mattress probably sits on a series of slats that extend from the rails. The slats may be joined together or they might be unattached to the rails. If they are attached to the rails, you might need a hammer to loosen them. If they are unattached, you can roll them up.
10. Remove the Bed Frame from the Headboard

A bed frame can be disassembled into a few easy-to-handle pieces. If you are moving, it is important to properly prepare your bed for transport. This will prevent scratches, dents, and damage while on the road.

First, remove the mattress and base from the bed frame. Place them in a protective mattress bag to keep them from getting dirty or flattened on the road. Then, affix the plastic bag with packing tape or zip it up.

Next, remove any storage drawers from the head and footboard of the bed. If they are filled with soft, unbreakable items, consider wrapping them in a sheet or a blanket to speed up the process. Next, loosen the bolts or screws that hold the headboard and footboard to the rails of the bed frame. Place the bolts and screws into a plastic bag to prevent losing them.
