Spend a day with Citizen TSUYOZA

Launched just a year ago, the Tsuyoza has met with incredible success. It must be said that it has serious advantages, in particular summer colors that make you want to dare, and above all a price that is difficult to beat. First available in four colors, the little new signed Citizen replica has recently been available in four new versions, including this “Ice Blue” that we are reviewing today.

It is as if a Day-Date and an OysterQuartz had an illegitimate child, a DateJust and an Oyster Perpetual had done the same, and their respective children had a child born in Japan. With the Tsuyoza, the Japanese firm strikes a big blow while joining the trend of sport-chic sell fake watches with integrated bracelet. An assertive Swiss inspiration with a “seventies” style combining a case with sharp lines and a bracelet with rounded links, all sprinkled with alternations between brushing and polishing to give it character. And to please as many people as possible: a 40mm template with a thickness of 12mm. That is the demand of the people ?

The strong points

We love the color spectrum, especially this “Ice Blue” version as well as the yellow dial released last year. Even if Citizen Miyota movements are distributed to many brands in other variants, we still appreciate the fact that the caliber 8210 which powers the hands of this piece is directly manufactured by the brand, thus making it a manufacture movement. We also appreciate its size which, thanks to a length of only 45mm, seems smaller than a traditional 40mm case. In terms of readability, obviously nothing to say, as the formula used has been proven, even if the Japanese brand has added its little touches: cut index next to the date, double index at 6 and 12 o'clock, as well as luminescent dots alongside the hour markers, not to mention the slightly oversized appearance of the indexes. Another small distinctive element that gives it its charm: its very small crown housed in the middle case at 4 o'clock, not screwed down – thus limiting its water resistance to 5 ATM – but easy to manipulate from below.

What we regret

If this High replica watch were water resistant to 10 ATM, it would still be much more practical for a watch with such summer colors. Because of its resistance to only 5 ATM, swimming should be avoided. It's a shame for a watch with a "sport-chic" style that is not sporty. Then, while the brushing is well executed, the polishing is a little fishy, especially at the case middle. If you're used to the cyclops of a Rolex, the magnifying glass surmounting the sapphire crystal of this watch will pale in comparison, but let's not forget the colossal price difference. Also, and this is systematically the case with watches at this price, while the links do their job very well, it is at the level of the folding clasp that we feel a weakness, even if Citizen had the good idea to apply the same vertical brushing as on the box whose rendering is good. We could also add her very brand-inspired style to the crown, which can be confusing – embarrassing for some – in the eyes of others. Finally, it is by winding the movement of the watch that we understand why few brands anchor small crowns in the middles: this makes the task tedious.
