Launched in 1988, HERBELIN celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2023.

To commemorate this new milestone reached by this iconic collection, the Franche-Comté watchmaker is unveiling the Newport Automatic Chronograph 35th Anniversary Edition.

Identical to the original model by its color codes - silver, gold, blue - this timepiece has nevertheless been subtly redesigned to bring it into the present day. Driven by an automatic chronograph movement, it enters the race in a limited edition, produced in 350 numbered copies for the world. A RACY DESIGN "Respecting the aesthetic DNA of the 1988 Newport while transposing it to today's time, and moreover on an automatic chronograph, non-existent at the time, was a real challenge" specifies Mathieu Herbelin, grandson of the founder and associate creative director of the French brand.

Hence, a purely cylindrical case with a contained thickness thanks to the presence of a quartz movement, a glass positioned in the extension of a flat bezel and central attachments. Staying true to this historic design while using an automatic chronograph mechanism involving a certain volume of case was not easy. For this anniversary edition with a diameter of 42 mm, the two-tone steel and yellow gold PVD-coated steel case has been refined to the extreme. The circular brushed steel bezel, sculpted on the underside, retains its original flat surface and houses a sapphire crystal in relief glass box to accentuate the finesse of the whole. Subtly enhancing the finishes of the dial, the yellow gold PVD offers, through a game of contrasts, perfect legibility of the information. Also covering the central lugs, the pushers and the notched crown engraved with a marine wheel, it attenuates the sporty character of the model by giving it a touch of timeless classicism.
