If you are wondering whether you need a new insulation at your home due to increased energy bills, look for the following signs before you proceed further –

Pests & Critters

Your home is a great heaven to relax, but some pests get in to take unfair advantage of it. If you have seen critters like squirrels, raccoons, opossums, or mice around your house, it is better to inspect your basement, attic, and crawlspaces. Insects and rodents can easily enter your home even with smallest opening like holes in vents or roof.

If you find any signs of pest in your basement, attic, or crawlspaces, it’s time to get your insulation replaced after repairing the damage by the critters. With insulation removal vacuum, you can avoid lingering smell and further infestations.

Water Damage & Leaky Roof

Like critters, water can also sneak in through the tiniest of spaces. Flooding or heavy rains can make roof and walls weaker. There is no way to dry your house once water comes in. Your home is more likely to get mildew, mold, or bacteria buildup. Walls, basements, and attics are more prone to water damage.

By getting your home insulated with cellulose insulation blower, your home is less vulnerable to bacterial growth. Fiberglass resists mold growth as it is a non-biodegradable material.  The cellular is made of paper and it is ideal food item for mold once it gets wet. Even a paper backing on fiberglass can act as a buffet for mold.

Some other ways to keep your home’s moisture under control are proper ventilation, air sealing, and insulation to avoid condensation and to keep them from bursting and freezing.

Drafts

Drafts are a major issue, whether affected area is around the window, doorway, or in the attic. Though you can avoid some small drafts with some of the creative caulking, you need some more insulation with cool insulation blowing machinesin those affected areas. Drafts are quite inconvenient but cost little more with time.

Spray foam insulation is a best solution for drafty area. It is a best solution as it can go deeper in such cracks and crevices and also seals when it is insulated. It is the cost-effective way to save more on electricity bills over time after settling the blown-in insulation.

Old Insulation

If room temperature is changing constantly in your home, old insulation must be the problem. You may feel that your home is losing insulation over time and it may settle or crumble. Wear safety gloves and touch the attic. If it still has elasticity and holds a shape, it is okay. If it is crumbly, you have to replace it.
