As the commencement of ticket sales for the ODI World Cup 2023 in India draws near, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confronts an additional challenge. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has formally proposed a modification to the schedule of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

This comes in response to concerns raised by the Hyderabad Police regarding the feasibility of ensuring adequate security for two consecutive Cricket World Cup matches scheduled within a span of two days. The HCA has underscored that hosting back-to-back World Cup games presents security challenges that need to be addressed.

Anticipating an extended stay at the venue, Hyderabad is poised to elevate its security arrangements for Pakistan’s tenure. Ahead of their official CWC matches, Pakistan is slated to partake in a pair of warm-up games in the city.

In the earlier part of this month, a total of nine matches from the ODI CWC 2023 were rescheduled following revisions announced jointly by the BCCI and ICC. Among these adjustments, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) was designated to host the World Cup clash between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on October 10, as well as the contest between New Zealand and the Netherlands on October 9.

However, the HCA has now approached the BCCI once again, seeking a further alteration to the schedule that would ensure a minimum one-day gap between the two aforementioned games.

“While I can’t guarantee a definite change, having consecutive matches isn’t an optimal scenario. If the BCCI is contemplating a revision, that would be favorable. Collaboration with security agencies is our priority.

“Almost everyone would prefer a day between two Cricket World Cup games. We’re currently in discussions with security agencies to assess the feasibility. Simultaneously, we’re ensuring the BCCI is informed about our efforts,” conveyed an undisclosed HCA representative, according to a PTI news agency report, maintaining anonymity.”

BCCI’s Vice-President, Rajeev Shukla, has expressed that the chances of making any further adjustments to the schedule are slim. “I oversee the Hyderabad venue for the ICC Cricket World Cup. If there are any issues, I will endeavor to resolve them.

Changing the World Cup schedule isn’t a simple task and is unlikely to occur. The schedule involves multiple parties including BCCI, teams, and ICC,” mentioned Shukla, who is also a Congress member in the Rajya Sabha, as reported by PTI.

According to the PTI report, Hyderabad Police typically deploy around 2000 to 2500 personnel for an international match. “The deployment varies based on the type of game and the attendance. The police assess these factors and allocate resources accordingly,” a source from the HCA added.

Openers- Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan

In the category of openers, the squad would include Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Until the previous year, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan held steadfast as India’s established opening pair in ODIs. However, Shubman Gill secured his position on the national team during the same period.

Rohit Sharma, who leads the ODI side, has showcased remarkable prowess in the format throughout the current year. Shikhar Dhawan, having participated in 22 ODIs in the preceding year, notched up six half-centuries during his appearances.

The front-runner to succeed Hardik Pandya as the vice-captain of the ODIs is Jasprit Bumrah

In a notable development, Jasprit Bumrah will assume the position of vice-captain, taking over from Hardik Pandya, for the forthcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup events. Bumrah marked his triumphant return to the international arena after an 11-month hiatus. His leadership steered India to victory in the initial two T20Is against Ireland.

Hardik Pandya gained considerable acclaim for his captaincy when he guided the Gujarat Titans to triumph in the 2022 IPL. Subsequently, he was appointed as the captain of the Indian T20I team, commencing from the 2022 tour of Ireland. This decision was necessitated by the unavailability of regular captain Rohit Sharma, who couldn’t partake in the 20-over matches following the T20 World Cup held the previous year.

Pandya’s tenure at the helm of the Indian T20 team proved fruitful, with an undefeated streak lasting over a year, until a recent five-match T20I series saw the West Indies emerge victorious. Cricket World Cup fans can buy Cricket World Cup Tickets from our website.

The West Indies secured a 3-2 victory over India, prompting criticism directed at Pandya for employing unconventional tactics that yielded unfavorable results. A year subsequent to recuperating from a back injury, Jasprit Bumrah assumed leadership of the T20I squad for the Ireland tour.

Claiming a couple of wickets in his inaugural over, Bumrah exhibited commendable leadership skills. Employing the DLS method, India secured a two-run victory in the match, marking a promising beginning for Bumrah’s stint as a captain in the white-ball format.

As per a report by The Times of India, there’s speculation that Bumrah could potentially take on the role of vice-captain for the Indian ODI team, succeeding his former teammate Hardik Pandya. This alteration is being considered in anticipation of the Asia Cup and the Cricket World Cup.

The senior selection committee is scheduled to convene on August 21, to determine India’s lineup for the Asia Cup 2023. This gathering has sparked speculation that the same roster, with some modifications, might compete in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup later this year.

During the ODI series against the West Indies, Hardik Pandya also assumed captaincy for a couple of matches. In the initial encounter, Rohit Sharma led the team to victory. Subsequently, Pandya took the reins for the next two matches. India faced defeat in the second match but emerged triumphant in the final encounter, clinching the series 2-1.

Nonetheless, Pandya’s performance during the T20I series fell short, prompting discussions about his continuity as the vice-captain. This has led some to speculate that Jasprit Bumrah is a prime candidate for the role’s replacement.
