The good thing about flashlights

The good thing about flashlights that accept lithium cells, is that they often take a variety of sizes. These options give the consumer much more control over cost. They can also be recharged hundreds of times! So as they MAY seem expensive, you DO get your money's worth out of them in their lifetime... IF... you use them correctly! Disposable cells can sit unused for several years and still maintain their power. Rechargeable cells can sit... but WILL lose their power over time. (See the "storage" section below.) BEST USAGE AND CHARGING HABITS This can get tricky, so make sure you understand this section. To fully understand about lithium battery safety.

you must have a basic knowledge of the volts at which they operate. Most rechargeable lithium batteries operate with a nominal voltage of 3.7 - which when fully charged, will end up being 4.2 volts. The great thing about these cells, is that they have no memory. They can be charged whenever it's convenient to charge them. It's actually better for the life of the cell to be charged more often as opposed to not often enough. DON'T GET THEM ANGRY! It's generally bad for a lithium battery to be discharged too far, too often. It's actually considered dangerous (in some situations) to discharge them BELOW 3.0 volts! A lithium battery that is routinely discharged below 3 volts and recharged again, will not only have a much shorter lifespan but could also take-on the characteristics of a mini bomb!! The chemicals housed in a lithium cell can be potentially hazardous. Searching the internet, you can find tales of terror, when it comes to the mishandling of these products. Try not to drop them onto hard surfaces.
