it's normal for them to be warm

When charging, it's normal for them to be warm to the touch. If they become HOT to the touch, stop the charge! But please keep in mind, dangerous incidents are rare, and are totally avoidable as long as you follow the safety practices described in this article. Try to buy only reputable batteries. Do some research. Very cheap cells are very cheap for a reason! PROTECTION IS KEY Look for lithium batteries that come with a built-in protection circuit. Most do. For the most part, this circuit will ensure that the battery isn't discharged beyond the point of possible danger. When in general use, and the voltage drops to a certain level, the battery will "shut-down" without warning. It may seem inconvenient, but it's sending you an important message! Just remember, circuits aren't infallible, and COULD fail.

The bottom line try not to rely on them 100%... just in case. STORAGE If you buy too many rechargeable lithium cells and realize you won't be using some for a while, you can store them safely. Storing them cold is best. But first, you need to DISCHARGE them to about HALF of their capacity. Running them down (from 4.2 volts, to about 3.6 volts is best.) Wrap them in an airtight bag and put them in the fridge. In this state they'll last a long time. When you want to put them back into use, simply warm them at room temperature, and you're good to go again. A QUALITY CHARGER IS BEST Buy yourself a good charger. Many are available that charge a variety of lithium battery sizes. The really good ones will stop the charge just short of 4.2 volts, and will also shut down if it detects the batteries are being harmed or over-charged. Again, knowledge is power! When people think of camping, they typically envision summer vacations: warm days, clear starry nights, nature in full-bloom. Few campers think about camping in the winter. However, like summer camping, winter camping is enjoyable if you know how to prepare properly.
