The LED lamp of the Pelican 7060 can exceed ten thousand hours of use, which by far exceeds the industry standards for regular flashlights. The maximum hours for standard store bought flashlight lamps is thirty to forty hours. In addition, the 7060 can maintain ninety minutes of continuous light without any depletion in intensity. A regular flashlight will start to dim as the battery life comes to an end. Pelican also introduced a new type of switching technology designed specifically with police work in mind. This technology allows police offers to immediately switch modes, moving from tactical to patrol in mere seconds. All of these features and durability is packaged in a resin tube that is almost indestructible. Surprisingly, even with the added features, the flashlight weighs half what standard police lights normally weigh, and is much smaller.

This allows police officers to carry the light at all times, and makes room on the officer's utility belt for other tools or equipment. Pelican has also manufactured in car chargers that will allow officers to continually recharge their flashlight in order to have the security of good lighting throughout an entire night's shift. During the unveiling of the Pelican 7060, the LAPD Chief of Police noted that, over the years, technology had improved the weaponry, defenses, and cars of the police force, but the 7060 was the first substantial improvement in a very important piece of police equipment - the flashlight. The mayor of Los Angeles gave a speech at the unveiling congratulating Pelican Products and the LAPD for working so closely together to develop such a vital tool. By the time Pelican and the LAPD unveiled the 7060, Pelican had already signed contracts with police departments throughout the country for the flashlight. Pelican also plans to market the flashlight to various users throughout the world.
