Organizations must come up with a holistic approach that helps in managing and protecting data. Information and data have become a very important component in most organizations which is the reason organizations should put in place measures that help in protecting this data. Besides coming up with a system that assists in the management of the data in an organization, there is a need to put in place ethical measures makes provisions on how the data should be handled in an organization.             Some of the ethical issues surrounding company data include privacy breaches, inappropriate use of data, failure to comply with standards that are aimed at protecting personal data, and failure to comply with various data principles such as accountability, quality, purpose specification principle and individual participation principle among others. Privacy breaches comprise various practices such as unauthorized access of data, the use of data for the wrong practices, the failure to respect an individual legal right to data. In most companies, various policies are put in place to prohibit individuals from engaging in such practices that amount to data breaches.

            The issue of data privacy is very sensitive and therefore, there is a need for companies to ensure that privacy of the data that is held is maintained. For instance, appropriate measures should be put in place to ensure that only individuals that are authorized get to deal with the data. The failure to ensure that the privacy of data in a company is maintained can lead to very serious consequences. For instance, individuals may be put at risk if personal data on important details such as bank accounts is shared or accessed by the wrong people. I believe that data privacy and ethics should be closely regulated in the US like it is in the EU with the recently enacted GDPR regulation. This will significantly reduce the likelihood of privacy breaches which is essential.
