Posted by Florin Muna on September 17th, 2023
The Renault Trafic Van E-Tech Electric van is a sustainable and practical solution for urban delivery and service professionals. It joins the ranks of Renault's all-electric light commercial vehicle series, which includes the Kangoo Van E-Tech Electric, the Master E-Tech Electric, and the ZOE Van.
Based on the successful Trafic model, which has boasted over 2.4 million sales since its 1980 debut, the Renault Trafic Van E-Tech Electric preserves the original model's strengths. These include a roomy, versatile loading area, an ergonomic, comfortable cabin, and a wide array of configurations and customization options. But it also introduces the perks of an electric powertrain, offering zero tailpipe emissions, reduced noise levels, smooth, responsive driving, and access to low-emission zones.
Performance and Range
The Trafic Van E-Tech Electric is powered by a 90 kW (122 hp) electric motor, delivering 245 Nm of instant torque. The motor is paired with a 52 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, providing a range of up to 297 km. This is sufficient to cover a typical day of urban driving for most professionals, all while lowering ownership and maintenance costs.
The battery pack for the Renault Trafic Van E-Tech Electric can be powered from 15% to 80% within 60 minutes using a fast charger (DC) or approximately 6 hours with a standard charger (AC). Furthermore, the battery pack comes with an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty, promising free replacement if its health drops below 70% of its original capacity.
The Renault Trafic Van E-Tech Electric also boasts an Eco mode that adjusts the power output to maximize the vehicle's range. A Long Range mode is also available, limiting the top speed to 90 km/h and extending the range to 322 km. Additionally, the driver can utilize regenerative braking to recapture energy during deceleration or downhill travel.
Design and Dimensions
Setting itself apart from the combustion engine version, the Trafic Van E-Tech Electric sports a unique design. The front grille features a blue chrome finish and an E-Tech logo, while the Electric badge adorns the rear doors. Blue accents are present on the wheel caps, side moldings, and LED daytime running lights, adding to the van's electric identity.
The van is available in two lengths (L1 and L2) and two heights (H1 and H2), providing various load capacities and dimensions. The L1H1 version measures 5.08 meters long and 1.97 meters high, with a load volume of 5.8 cubic meters and a payload capacity of 1.1 tonnes. Alternatively, the L2H2 version measures 5.48 meters in length and 2.50 meters in height, offering a load volume of 8.9 cubic meters and a payload capacity of 0.9 tonnes.
The electric van is designed for superior modularity and versatility, boasting features such as a trap door in the partition for loading items up to 4.15 meters long in the L2 model. Other features include a collapsible passenger seat that transforms into a flat floor, thereby increasing the load volume by 0.6 cubic meters and a towing capacity of up to 750 kg. The van can also be seamlessly converted into a double cab panel van, which can accommodate six people, or a flatbed model with an open loading area.
Comfort and Technology
The Renault Trafic Van E-Tech Electric highlights a comfortable, ergonomic cabin that doubles as a mobile office for busy professionals. The cabin is furnished with an adjustable driver's seat featuring lumbar support, a versatile steering wheel, air conditioning, electric windows and mirrors, cruise control, and keyless entry.
The cabin also provides ample storage space, offering up to 88 liters of compartments distributed across the dashboard, doors, console, glove box, and bench seat. The glove box can be swapped with an EasyLife drawer that slides toward the driver for convenient access. The middle seat can be folded down to serve as a desk or table, complete with a notepad storage slot.
The van comes fitted with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as supporting navigation, radio, Bluetooth, USB ports, and wireless charging. Crucial details such as battery status, range, charging, and energy consumption can also be accessed through the system.
The van is equipped with a variety of safety and driver assistance systems, such as a rearview camera, parking sensors, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, and hill start assist.
Customized Support and Services
Renault provides customized support and services to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles for customers, ensuring a smooth process. The Renault Trafic Van E-Tech Electric is an adaptable and efficient solution for city-based professionals who need a roomy, practical van that minimizes their environmental footprint and operating expenses.
